Murchison County.—Hope Survey District.—Westland Mining District.

Section 18 (formerly part Section 6) and Section 19 (formerly part Section 10), Block I: Area, 590 acres. Capital value, £295; half-yearly rent, £5 18s.

Weighted with £130 for improvements, comprising 115 acres felling and grassing, and 100 chains fencing. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £10, the balance may be repaid over a term of ten years by half-yearly instalments of £7 14s. consisting of principal and interest (at 5 per cent. per annum).

These sections are situated seven miles from Owen River Post-office, seven miles from Owen School, twenty-two miles from Glenhope Railway-station, and nineteen miles from Murchison Dairy Factory and Saleyards. Access is from Glenhope by formed and metalled road. The area comprises mainly terrace land rising to hillside at the back. Approximately 115 acres have been cleared but now going into fern, and there are about 100 acres of terrace land of a semi-open nature with manuka scrub and native grass. Soil for the most part is of a light clayey nature on gravel and sandstone formation; well watered by river and creeks. Altitude about 950 ft. to 2,800 ft. above sea-level. These sections are not an economic unit in themselves and should be held with adjacent land.

Settlement Lands in Otago Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

Dunedin, 14th May, 1940.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 1st July, 1940.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 10th July, 1940, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined· documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicants will be required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.


SCHEDULE.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.
FIRST-CLASS LAND.

Clutha County.—Pomahaka Survey District.—Pomahaka Downs Settlement.

SECTION 6, Block XIII: Area, 279 acres 0 roods 34 perches. Capital value, £700; half-yearly rent, £17 10s.

Weighted with £162 (payable in cash) for improvements, comprising fencing.

Section 14, Block XIII: Area, 250 acres 1 rood 30 perches. Capital value, £750; half-yearly rent, £18 15s.

Weighted with £641 for improvements, comprising six-roomed dwelling, stable, wool-shed, implement-shed, yards, plantation, fencing, and concrete tank. This sum is payable in cash, or by a deposit of £41, the balance, £600, to be secured by mortgage to the State Advances Corporation of New Zealand for thirty years, interest 4½ per cent., reducible to 4¼ per cent., quarterly instalments of principal and interest £9 5s. 11d. (gross).

The sections are situated in the Clutha County, ten and a half miles from Clinton, eight and a half miles from Waipahi Railway-station, and half a mile from Popotunoa School. Section 6 comprises easy undulating land, practically all ploughable, well watered by creeks and springs. Mainly northerly aspect. Soil is a light loam on clay and rock formation. Grows good root and oat crops. At present all in brown-top. Section 14 comprises undulating to ridgy land with a north to north-easterly aspect. All ploughable with exception of approximately 60 acres gullies containing good rough feed. Soil is a light loam on clay formation; well watered by creeks and springs. Grows good root and oat crops. Section at present in brown-top.

Note.—The two sections together comprise an economic unit but neither section on its own would do so, and applications for one section without the other will be accepted only from settlers in the district whose present holdings are in the opinion of the Land Board uneconomic. The homestead is situated on section 14 and if the two sections are not disposed of together, as one farm, section 14 will not be allotted until section 6 is disposed of.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Clutha County.—Waipahi Survey District.—Arthurton Settlement.

Section 1s: Area, 1,584 acres 3 roods 17 perches. Capital value, £2,835; half-yearly rent, £70 17s. 6d.

Weighted with £197 13s. for improvements, comprising hut, fencing, plantation, and shelter belts. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £47 13s., the balance, £150, with interest at 5 per cent. per annum, to be paid over a period of fifteen years by thirty half-yearly instalments of £7 4s. 6d.

The section is situated in the Clutha County, four miles from Waipahi Post-office, School, Railway-station, and Saleyards. A good grazing property comprising undulating land, northerly aspect, altitude 600 ft. to 950 ft. The soil is a light loam on rock formation; well watered by creeks and river. Approximately 400 acres arable land, in old pasture; 16 acres fallow; balance being tussock pastoral country in virgin state.

Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Palmerston North, at 3 o’clock p.m. on Thursday, 30th May, 1940.


SCHEDULE.

WELLINGTON FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.

ALL the milling-timber on that piece of land containing approximately 176 acres, known as Lot 5A, Block XV, Manganui Survey District (Provisional State Forest No. 67), about two miles from Horopito Railway-station.

The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 267,300, or in board feet 1,856,300, made up as follows:—

All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.
