Regulations under the Naval Defence Act, 1913, amended.

GALWAY, Governor-General.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 14th day of February, 1940.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor-General in Council.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on him by section twenty-five of the Naval Defence Act, 1913, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency the Governor-General, with the advice of the Executive Council, doth hereby amend and supplement the regulations referred to in the Schedule hereto as shown therein.


SCHEDULE.

REGULATIONS FOR THE GOVERNMENT AND PAYMENT OF THE NEW ZEALAND NAVAL FORCES, 1939.

Article 132, paragraph (1): Cancel, and substitute:—

  1. Marriage Allowance.—On production to the Commanding Officer of satisfactory evidence of marriage, marriage allowance shall be payable to ratings at a flat rate of £1 per week, with the addition of 5s. per week for each child under the age of sixteen up to a maximum of £2 5s. per week in all, with effect from 1st June, 1939, i.e.,:—

Article 132, paragraph (3): Cancel, and substitute:—

(3) Marriage allowance may be paid to widowers with children under the age of sixteen years in accordance with the following scale, subject to an allotment being declared in favour of a guardian of one-quarter of active pay (computed as in 2 (a)), plus the full amount of marriage allowance. Subject to investigation in each case, the Naval Board may also approve of payment of marriage allowance on this scale in cases where, owing to illness, misconduct, or desertion on the part of the wife, the children are placed under the care of a suitable guardian.

Article 132, paragraph (4): Insert:—

Marriage allowance is to be credited at the rate applicable for broken periods up to and including the Thursday following the date on which a rating first became eligible for the allowance; thereafter the allowance is to be credited at the weekly rate in accordance with allotments charged.

Article 133, paragraph (1): Cancel, and substitute:—

  1. Dependant’s Allowance.—When marriage allowance is not drawn an allowance of £1 per week, or 3s. per diem for broken periods, shall be payable as from 1st June, 1939, to ratings in respect of a dependant residing in New Zealand requiring support, subject to the same conditions as are in force for payment of marriage and children’s allowance, under the following provisions:—
