Notes.—Engineers are expected to pass the qualifying examination for A.M.I.C.E., A.M.I.E.E., A.M.I.M.E., B.E., &c., according to branch in which they are employed before being eligible to be advanced beyond £470.

Officers with special qualifications, marked (†) in the column provided for the maximum salary, may proceed by annual increments to a maximum of £425 subject to satisfactory reports, and provided that the duties performed are of a nature and value commensurate with the increasing salary; from thence by annual increments to a maximum of £470 provided the status of the duties progressively advances.
