PUBLICATION OF THE NEW ZEALAND NAUTICAL ALMANAC AND TIDE-TABLES FOR THE YEAR 1941.
THE New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide-tables for 1941, compiled at the Nautical Adviser’s Office, Marine Department, will be published at Wellington on the 1st November, 1940, and afterwards may be purchased from Government Shipping Offices, or the Marine Department, Wellington.
The publication will contain the following information :—
Tidal predictions, giving the daily times and heights of high and low water for the ports of Auckland, Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wellington, and Westport.
Time differences, by which the approximate time of high and low water may be obtained at 104 places within New Zealand.
Tidal-stream predictions, giving the approximate daily time of the flood and ebb streams making at French Pass and Tory Channel.
Daily times of sunset and sunrise at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington, and time differences by which similar approximate times may be ascertained for Invercargill, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Westport. Times of moonrise and moonset for Wellington.
Magnetic variation (variation of the compass) at places throughout New Zealand for 1941, and places where abnormal variation has been experienced ; list of latest dated Admiralty charts of the coast and harbours of the Dominion, &c. ; list of New Zealand lighthouses, radio beacons, and fog-signals ; regulations for preventing collisions at sea ; New Zealand time-service for chronometer rating ; standard times of the world ; general harbour signals ; railway map and distances ; table of coastal distances ; list of Customs ports ; radio stations ; meteorology of the New Zealand region ; Pacific Ocean date-line ; list of licensed adjusters of compasses and coastal pilots ; ports at which compulsory pilotage is in force ; system of buoyage ; closing of British ports ; and a list of signal letters of ships registered in the Dominion.
Information and plans relative to ports in New Zealand ; important notices to mariners issued by the Admiralty and Board of Trade and information of general use to navigators and others.
Astronomical ephemeris as required for use by navigators ; useful nautical tables with the necessary explanations ; principle articles of the calendar, holidays, &c.; phases of the moon, mean places, and meridian passage of stars, &c.
Prospective purchasers, especially those desiring a number of copies, should make early application so as to receive a supply from the first issue, as some weeks may elapse between the first and subsequent issues.
The Nautical Almanac is published by direction of the Hon. the Minister of Marine : price 5s.

Notification of Vacancy of Seat in the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Waipawa.
IN compliance with the provisions of section 103 of the Electoral Act, 1927, I, William Edward Barnard, Speaker of the House of Representatives of New Zealand, hereby notify that Albert Edward Jull, a member of the House of Representatives for the Electoral District of Waipawa, died on the 24th day of September, 1940, during a recess of the House by adjournment, and that the said seat in the House of Representatives for the said Electoral District is vacant by reason of such death.
