Portion of Kaipara Consolidation Scheme confirmed.

In the matter of section 161 of the Native Land Act, 1931.

NOTICE is hereby given that a scheme of consolidation
in part, covering part Series "D" of the Kaipara
Consolidation Scheme which affects Aoroa and other blocks,
having been prepared by the Native Land Court and submitted
on the 26th day of November, 1938, under the seal
of the Court to the Native Minister for approval, I, Frank
Langstone, acting for the Native Minister, being satisfied that
the portion of the scheme so submitted is just and equitable
and is in the public interest, do hereby confirm the aforesaid
portion of the scheme of consolidation.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor, Motueka
Borough Council, is published in accordance with the
provisions of the Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1926.

MOTUEKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

PURSUANT to section 13 (l) of the Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the
Borough of Motueka, taken on the 27th day of January,
1939, on the proposal of the Motueka Borough Council to
borrow the sum of fourteen hundred and fifty pounds for
acquiring a new fire-engine and necessary equipment:-

Votes.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was ... 85
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 115
I therefore declare that the proposal was rejected.

MANUREWA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of rate-
payers of the Borough of Manurewa taken on the 8th
day of February, 1939, on the proposal of the Manurewa
Borough Council to borrow the sum of £1,000 for providing
council chambers and for carrying out improvements to
the Manurewa Public Hall:-

Votes.
The number of votes recorded for the proposal was .. 47
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 20
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Northcote Borough Council.--Cancellation of Unexercised Loan
Authority.

In the matter of section 118 of the Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1926.

WHEREAS the Northcote Borough Council has been
duly authorized to borrow by way of loan the sum
of two thousand eight hundred pounds (£2,800) by a loan
known as the "Slips Repair Loan, 1925":

And whereas in respect of the said sum of two thousand
eight hundred pounds (£2,800) there has been raised and
borrowed the sum of one thousand two hundred pounds
(£1,200) and it has not been found necessary to borrow the
whole of the amount so authorized:

And whereas the Honourable the Minister of Finance has
duly notified the Northcote Borough Council in writing of
his intention to cancel the loan authority to the extent of
one thousand six hundred pounds (£1,600) not exercised:

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in that behalf
conferred upon me by section 118 of the Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1926, as amended by section 46 of the Finance Act,
1931 (No. 4), and of all other powers me in this behalf enabling
I, Walter Nash, Minister of Finance, do hereby cancel the
authority of the Northcote Borough Council to borrow under
the loan authority hereinbefore referred to the sum of one
thousand six hundred pounds being the amount in respect
of which the said loan authority has not been exercised :
Provided always that this cancellation is without prejudice
to the validity in all respects of the loan of one thousand
two hundred pounds (£1,200) already borrowed pursuant to
the said loan authority.

Approval of Testing Officers under the Motor-drivers'
Regulations, 1931.

IN terms of regulation 5 of the Motor-drivers' Regulations,
1931, the Minister of Transport does hereby approve,
until further notice, of the persons named in column 2 of the
Schedule hereunder being Testing Officers under the said
regulations for the authority specified in column 1 of the said
Schedule.

Declaring a certain Service for Carriage of Goods by Motor-
vehicle to constitute a Goods-service.

PURSUANT to clause 21 of the Applied Provisions of the
Transport (Goods) Order, 1936, I, Robert Semple,
Minister of Transport, do hereby declare that any service
carried on by means of a motor-vehicle owned by or hired
from or to or operated by or for Thomas Smith Carruth, of
Omakau, Builder and Contractor, and carried on for the
carriage of goods (whether for hire or reward or not) shall be
deemed for the purposes of the Transport Licensing Act, 1931,
and the Applied Provisions of the Transport (Goods) Order,
1936, to be a goods-service within the meaning of the said Act
and the said provisions, whether or not such service has been
heretofore carried on under the authority and in terms of a
goods-service license.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22.--Fixing the Closing-hours
of Grocers' Shops within the Borough of Thames.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority
of the occupiers of all grocers' shops within the
Borough of Thames, has been forwarded to me desiring that
all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening
of working-days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednes-
days, and Thursdays at 5 p.m., and Fridays at 9 p.m.: Provided
that when Friday is generally observed as a holiday
any shop affected by this notice, which is closed for the whole
of such day, may remain open until 9 p.m. on the Thursday
immediately preceding such day:

And whereas I, Patrick Charles Webb, Minister of Labour,
am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent
a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the
said borough:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and
Offices Act, 1921-22, I do hereby direct that on and after
the 6th day of March, 1939, all the grocers' shops within the
Borough of Thames shall be closed accordingly.

The notice gazetted on the 23rd June, 1911, fixing the
closing-hours of grocers' shops in the Borough of Thames
shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming
into operation of this notice.
