NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with the provisions of section 188 (3) of the Mining Act, 1926, as amended by section 18 of the Mining Amendment Act, 1937, that unless sufficient cause to the contrary be shown within one month from the date hereof the mining privileges mentioned in the Schedule hereto will be struck off the Register.

Position: Lat., 33° 55′ S.; long., 172° 30′ E. (approx.).
Details: A depth of 11 fathoms is reported to exist in about the above approximate position. Heavy weather with low visibility prevented a more accurate position being obtained.

Freeman’s Bay: Beacon removed.

Position: 250° 1,425 ft., from north-western corner of Prince’s Wharf. Lat., 36° 50′·4 S.; long, 174° 45′·7 E. (approx.).
Details: The shoal-area in the vicinity has been dredged away and the pile beacon with staff and cage surmount removed.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—HOKIANGA RIVER.

Telephone Cable: Prohibited Anchorage.

Position: Lat. 35° 24′ S.; long., 173° 31′ E. (approx.).
Details: Four triangular shaped beacons, each bearing the word “Cable,” have been established in the following positions to mark the line of a cable which will be laid shortly. Nos. 3 and 4 beacons are in line 027°.
No. 1: On the northern extremity of Herd Point.
No. 2: 328° 1 cable from No. 1.
No. 3: 300° 5·4 cables from inner end of Motukaraka Wharf.
No. 4: 320° 5·0 cables from inner end of Motukaraka Wharf.
Anchorage is prohibited within 110 yards of the cable.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Land in North Auckland Land District for Selection on Optional Tenures.

North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 30th May, 1939.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned property is open for selection on optional tenures under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Friday, 14th July, 1939.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at the North Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland on Wednesday, 19th July, 1939, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.

The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements.

SCHEDULE.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Hokianga County.—Whangape Survey District.

Sections 7 and 14, Block VIII: Area, 402 acres. Capital value, £325. Deposit on deferred payments, £15. Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £10 1s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 10s.

Weighted with £1,275 for improvements, comprising 402 acres felled and grassed but reverted; dwelling, garage, cowbyre, and 490 chains fencing.

This sum is payable in cash, or after payment of a deposit of £130, the balance may be secured on mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for a term of thirty years. At the present ruling rate of interest the quarterly instalments under the mortgage amount to £35 9s. 7d., principal and interest combined, but a rebate will be allowed for prompt payment.

NOTE.—1. The selector shall covenant in the mortgage to the State Advances Corporation to apply to pasture at least five tons of phosphatic manures per annum, together with the necessary lime.

  1. The selector shall execute in favour of the State Advances Corporation a first irrevocable dairy order on cream cheques to secure payment of annual charges in respect of the lease and mortgage.

This property is situated on Rotokakahia Road, two miles and a half from Rotokakahia School and fourteen miles from Broadwood Post-office and Saleyards. Access is from Broadwood by metalled road. The sections are indifferently watered by springs. Soil is poor to fair clay resting on sandstone formation. Property comprises approximately 100 acres fair quality easy ploughable clay land and 302 acres hilly-poor to fair clay. The whole area has been grassed,
