The Sharebrokers Act, 1908.--Alterations and Additions to
the Rules of the Christchurch Stock Exchange.

Wellington, 30th March, 1939.
HIS Excellency the Governor-General in Council has
been pleased to approve of the following alterations
and additions to the rules of the Christchurch Stock Exchange.

CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE.
Rule 22: That the "31st day of December" appearing
on the second line thereof be altered to read "31st day of
October" and that the fourth line be altered to read "held
annually not later than the month of January, at".
New Rules.
Members' Books of Accounts and Records.
Members shall keep books and records for the purpose of
recording their transactions in a form that will enable an
auditor to supply the information required by the rule to
relate to the audit of members' books.
The committee regard the following books and records
as sufficient for the purpose of this rule:

Bought and sold books, in which must be recorded the
name of the buyer and seller respectively of every transaction. -
Cash book, in which must be entered every amount
paid or received. -
Journal or system of books fulfilling the function.

Scrip register, in which shall be entered all securities
coming into the office, and showing disposal of same. -
Ledger or ledgers, showing transactions:
(a) With clients.
(b) With brokers.
(c) In respect of nominal or personal accounts.
Production of Members' Books.
The committee of the exchange shall have full and absolute
power at any time to call upon any member to produce
forthwith for inspection by themselves or their duly appointed
representatives, all books, letters, telegrams, or copies thereof,
and other documents relating to his business of a share-
broker; and they may also require members and their
clerks to appear before the committee or their duly appointed
representatives at any time, and give such information as
may be required in connection with such business.
Audit of Members' Books.
When notified by the committee, members are required
within the time specified in such notification to supply
through their auditors to the chairman, a certificate of audit
and report from a practising public accountant, who may
be appointed by the committee. The certificate and report
shall deal with the following financial matters:

Balance date.

Have all books and records required for the purposes
of this certificate been regularly and properly kept? -
Have any securities held for safe custody been pledged
in any way? -
Were all securities held for safe custody examined?

If clients are financed, does the market value of the
securities held cover the amount of the advance in each case? -
Were all securities lodged by the clients for sale and
securities purchased for clients and paid for by them held
unencumbered? -
Did the market value of assets (excluding value of
seat) as shown by the books, exceed the member's commit-
ments at balance date? -
Were the assets taken into account readily realizable?

Does the statement of assets include private assets not
usually included with business assets? -
Are there any contingent liabilities, and, if so, of what
amount?
(Note.--Under this heading, a full report must be furnished
of any over-sold position.)

Are there any other matters or circumstances which,
in the auditor's opinion, affect the financial position of the
member? -
Has all necessary information been available to enable
this certificate to be given?

Resolution passed on 22nd September, 1932:-
Each member of this exchange shall be deemed to be
bound in all respects by the rules of the New Zealand Stock
Exchange Association, as gazetted and as may from time to
time be gazetted in the same manner as if the same were
incorporated in the rules of this exchange.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments.--
Fixing the Closing-hours of Tobacconists' Shops within the
Borough of Woodville.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded
to me from the occupiers of tobacconists' shops
within the Borough of Woodville, pursuant to section 32 of
the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I,
William Edward Parry, acting for the Minister of Labour, do
hereby direct that on and after the 24th day of April, 1939,
all the said shops within the said borough shall be closed in
the evening of working-days as follows: Subject to closing
at not later than the prescribed hour on the day observed
as the statutory closing-day, on Mondays, Tuesdays,
Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 5.30 p.m., and on
Fridays at 9.30 p.m., with the following exceptions: On the
working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day, on the
working-day immediately preceding New Year's Day, and on
the Thursday immediately preceding Good Friday, the
closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.:
The notice gazetted on the 22nd April, 1915, fixing the
closing-hours of tobacconists' shops within the Borough of
Woodville shall be and is hereby cancelled as from the date
of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block XVI, Ahikereru
Survey District, for the Purposes of a Public Works Depot.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take
the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes
of a Public Works Depot. And notice is hereby further
given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is
deposited in the post-office at Ruatahuna and is there open
for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking
of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded
objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in
writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the
first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public
Works, at Wellington.
SCHEDULE.
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken:
3 roods.
Being portion of Papueru Block.
Situated in Block XVI, Ahikereru Survey District
(Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 30042.)
In the Auckland Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 102428,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at
Wellington, and thereon coloured red.
As witness my hand at Wellington, this 3rd day of
