HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased
to approve of the following appointments, promotions,
transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New
Zealand Military Forces :β
STAFF.
Captain B. Barrington, 1st Battalion, The Wellington
West Coast Regiment, is attached to Army Headquarters,
Wellington, for duty as Staff Officer (Mobilization).
Dated 21st August, 1939.
Captain E. T. W. Love, 1st Battalion, The Wellington
Regiment (City of Wellington's Own), is attached to
Army Headquarters, Wellington, for duty in connection
with the formation of the Maori Battalion. Dated
29th September, 1939.
Captain St. J. A. Hill, Royal Indian Army Service Corps,
is attached to Army Headquarters, Wellington, for
duty as Staff Officer (M.T.). Dated 4th September,
1939.
Captain E. E. Lloyd, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed
Adjutant (temporary), Burnham Camp. Dated 26th
September, 1939.
Lieutenant R. A. McKinlay, N.Z. Staff Corps, is appointed
Adjutant, The Nelson-Marlborough Mounted Rifles,
Blenheim. Dated 27th September, 1939.
Leiutenant A. W. Brown, M.C., D.C.M., N.Z. Staff Corps,
is appointed Quartermaster, Machine Gun Battalion,
Special Force, Burnham. Dated 26th September, 1939.
Captain R. C. Queree, Regiment of Royal N.Z. Artillery,
having returned to the Dominion is appointed acting
District Artillery Officer, Northern Military District,
Auckland. Dated 9th October, 1939.
Lieutenant M. T. S. Dew, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes
the appointments of Adjutant, 1st Field Ambulance and
Assistant Area Officer, No. 1 Area, Auckland, and is
appointed Instructor, Northern Military District School
of Instruction, Narrow Neck. Dated 12th October,
1939.
Lieutenant and Quartermaster G. F. McCulloch, M.B.E.,
N.Z. Permanent Staff, relinquishes the appointment of
Adjutant, Army School of Instruction, and is appointed
Instructor, Army School of Instruction, Trentham.
Dated 16th October, 1939.
Lieutenant J. D. Armstrong, N.Z. Staff Corps, relinquishes
the appointemnt of Adjutant, Central Military District
School of Instruction, and is appointed Adjutant, Army
School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 17th October,
1939.
REGIMENT OF ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Stevens is granted the temporary
rank of Colonel. Dated 12th October, 1939.
N.Z. TEMPORARY STAFF.
Major D. M. Robertson, E.D., Retired List, to be Captain,
and is attached to the Branch of the Adjutant-General,
Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 11th September,
1939.
Major G. A. Gibbs, from the Reserve of Officers, N.Z.
Army Medical Corps, to be Major, and is appointed
Staff Officer and Quartermaster Medical Services, Army
Headquarters, Wellington. Dated 23rd September,
1939.

Lieutenant L. A. Lincoln, 1st Field Company, Corps of

is appointed District Engineer Works Officer, Northern
Military District, Auckland. Dated 12th September,
1939.
George Charles Simmis (late 2nd Lieutenant, Reserve of
Officers) to be Lieutenant, and is appointed assistant
to Staff Officer (M.T.), Army Headquarters, Wellington.
Dated 9th October, 1939.
Major and Quartermaster R. E. B. Hopkirk, The Manawatu
Mounted Rifles, to be Captain, and is appointed Adjutant
and Quartermaster, Administrative Headquarters, Tren-
tham Military Area. Dated 7th October, 1939.
QUEEN ALEXANDRA'S (WELLINGTON WEST COAST) MOUNTED
RIFLES.
Lieutenant A. H. Revell, from the Manawatu Mounted
Rifles, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 24th August,
1936, next below Lieutenant E. R. Andrews. Dated
11th September, 1939.
THE AUCKLAND (EAST COAST) MOUNTED RIFLES.
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants :-
Alfred Charles Yeoman. Dated 24th August, 1939.
Kenneth Garret Dee. Dated 25th August, 1939.

Lieutenant A. H. Revell is transferred to Queen Alexandra's
(Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles. Dated 11th
September, 1939.
REGIMENT OF N.Z. ARTILLERY.
Hon. Lieutenant C. H. Gallagher, Retired List, to be
Lieutenant, is attached to the 15th Heavy Battery,
dated 4th September, 1939, and is promoted to the
rank of Captain, dated 1st October, 1939.
2nd Lieutenant J. P. Snadden, 4th Field Battery, to be
Lieutenant. Dated 29th August, 1939.
Ian Douglas Bell to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is posted to
the 10th Field Battery. Dated 18th September, 1939.
Clarence Stanley Maguinness to be 2nd Lieutenant, and
is posted to the 13th Heavy Battery. Dated 4th
October, 1939.
Matthew Ian Stratton to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is posted
to the 18th Anti-Aircraft Battery. Dated 4th October,
1939.
CORPS OF N.Z. ENGINEERS.
Lieutenant N. N. Gard'ner, from the Reserve of Officers,
to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 7th February, 1939,
and is posted to the 3rd Field Company. Dated 4th
October, 1939.
N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS.
Lieutenant W. J. Scholefield, from the Reserve of Officers,
to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 3rd October, 1939,
and is posted to the Central District Signal Company.
Dated 10th October, 1939.
THE HAURAKI REGIMENT.
Captain J. A. Speer, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the
Reserve of Officers, Class I (b), Area 2. Dated 16th
October, 1939.

Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, with seniority from
14th October, 1938, and is posted to the 1st Battalion.

Francis Macbean Stewart to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is
