PURSUANT to the powers conferred on me by the Hop Marketing Regulations 1939, made under the Primary Products Marketing Act, 1936, and the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act, 1934, I, Walter Nash, Minister of Marketing, do hereby in pursuance of regulation 2 (b) of the said regulations, appoint—

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
Land in Auckland Land District for Selection on Optional Tenures.
Auckland District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 10th October, 1939.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned property is open for selection on optional tenures under the Land Act, 1924; and applications will be received at the Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, up to 11 o’clock a.m. on Monday, 20th November, 1939.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the Auckland District Lands and Survey Office, Auckland, on Wednesday, 22nd November, 1939, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such as bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease fee, deposit in reduction of weighting for improvements, and mortgage costs.
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SECOND-CLASS LAND.
Otorohanga County.—Pirongia Survey District.
SECTIONS 7 and 8, Block XV: Area, 439 acres 2 roods.* Capital value, £310. Deposit on deferred payments, £10. Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £9 15s. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £6 4s.
Weighted with £1,200 for improvements, comprising dwelling, cow-shed, implement-shed, yards, and old shed, water-supply, road-boundary fencing, internal fencing, half-share in boundary fencing, shelter, roads, clearing, ploughing, and grassing. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £75, the balance, £1,125, as follows:—
(1) The sum of £305 on mortgage to the State Advances Corporation, payable over a period of twenty years by half-yearly instalments of principal and interest combined, with interest at the rate ruling as at date of selection, subject to a rebate of ½ per cent. for payment of the instalments on or before fourteen days after the due date thereof. In connection with this mortgage the selector will require to sign a covenant providing for the satisfactory manuring of the property and the control of and gradual eradication of noxious weeds.
(2) The sum of £820 on mortgage to the Lands and Survey Department, payable over a period of thirty-six and a half years by half-yearly instalments of principal and interest combined amounting to £24 12s. Costs of both these mortgages are payable by the selector.
A mixed-farming proposition situated on the Owaikura Road about eight miles from Otorohanga Post-office, Railway-station, Dairy Factory, and Saleyards, two miles from Otorohanga School (by bus); access is by seven and three-quarter miles metalled road and quarter mile clay road from Otorohanga. Property comprises easy undulating to hilly and broken country with approximately 300 acres ploughable; about 120 acres is in fair pasture, 100 acres is bush land which has been felled and grassed, 60 acres is in standing bush, balance of about 160 acres in fern and second growth. The soil is a light to medium loam resting on sandstone and papa formation; watered by creeks and springs with artificial reticulation from one spring by pump to three troughs.
The property is estimated to carry, with proper top-dressing, twenty dairy cows, thirty steers and heifers, and two hundred and fifty sheep in its present condition, with considerable increase when fully developed. It is situated in a ragwort-infested district and a condition of selection is that the selector prevents the growth and spread of noxious weeds to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
NOTE.—(1) Area subject to slight alteration.
(2) Part of the fencing on the eastern boundary of Section 7 is not included in the improvement-loading and the selector will be liable to the adjoining owner for half-share in the present value thereof.

Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, New Plymouth, on Wednesday, 25th October, 1939, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.

SECTION 2, Block III, Mahoe Survey District, and Section 16, Block XV, Pouatu Survey District: Area, 1,133 acres. Capital value, £285. Deposit on deferred payments, £15. Half-yearly instalment on deferred payments, £8 15s. 6d. Renewable lease: Half-yearly rent, £5 14s.
Weighted with £319 for improvements, comprising dwelling, shed, washhouse, cow-shed, separator-room, sheep-yards, fencing, approximately 200 acres grassed. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £4, £230 may be repaid by half-yearly instalments of principal and interest over a period of twenty-five years and a half at 5 per cent. per annum, and the balance £85, may be secured on first mortgage to the State Advances Corporation for a term of five years with interest at the rate ruling as at the date of selection. A remission of interest during the term of the mortgage will be allowed conditionally upon the principal instalments being paid promptly. Costs in connection with the preparation of the mortgage, £2 14s., must be paid immediately an applicant is declared successful.
A grazing property situated on the Putikituna Road, eight miles from Kohuratahi Post-office, Railway-station, and Saleyards. Access is from Kohuratahi, by seven miles metalled road and one mile formed clay road. The area comprises steep to broken country with light loam soil on sandstone formation; watered by streams. Subdivided into ten paddocks. About 200 acres in grass, the balance in second growth and bush.
