WELLINGTON, MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1939.

Declaring H.M. Ships “Leander” and “Achilles” to pass under the Operational Control of the Government of Great Britain.

GALWAY, Governor-General.

WHEREAS by section 20 of the Naval Defence Act, 1913, it is provided that the Governor-General may transfer to the King's Naval Forces any vessel of the New Zealand Naval Forces and that any such transfer may be for such period and subject to such conditions as may be arranged between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of Great Britain:

And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor-General, and having been so requested by the Government of Great Britain, it is now expedient in the interests of Great Britain that such transfer should now be effected to the extent hereinafter appearing:

And whereas at the present time His Majesty’s ship “Leander” and His Majesty’s ship “Achilles” are vessels of the New Zealand Naval Forces:

Now, therefore, I, George Vere Arundell, Viscount Galway, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section 20 of the Naval Defence Act, 1913, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf,

do hereby transfer to the King’s Naval Forces His Majesty’s Ship “Leander” and His Majesty’s Ship “Achilles” so as to pass under the operational control and be at the disposition of the Government of Great Britain and to remain under such control and disposition from the date of this Warrant until further transfer thereof is duly effected, subject, however, to the condition that all officers and men borne and to be borne on the books of the said ships shall nevertheless remain part of the New Zealand Naval Forces and shall be subject to the laws, rules, and regulations in force relating to officers and men of the New Zealand Naval Forces.
