Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, and its Amendments, fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers' Shops within the Borough of Westport.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers' shops within the Borough of Westport has been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows :—
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5 p.m., and Fridays at 8 p.m.:
And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 7th day of November, 1938, all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Westport shall be closed accordingly.
The notices gazetted on the 9th day of May, 1928, fixing the closing-hours of grocers’ shops and prohibiting the sale of certain goods comprised in the trade of a grocer within the Borough of Westport, shall be and are hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Revocation of Approval of a Garage-proprietor for issue of Warrants of Fitness.

IN terms of regulation 11 of the Traffic Regulations, 1936, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Minister of Transport does hereby revoke the approval of the person described in the Schedule hereto for the purpose of the issue of Warrants of Fitness for motor-vehicles.

Declaring Areas to be Closely Populated Localities for the Purposes of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3.

IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, the Minister of Transport does hereby declare the areas described in the Schedule hereto to be closely populated localities for the purposes of the said section, to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which the public have access therein shall be subject to the maximum speed-limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.

SCHEDULE.

SITUATED within Waitomo County—
All that area at Pio Pio consisting of the Auckland-Wellington via Taranaki Main Highway No. 1 commencing at a point 10 chains measured along the road in a north-easterly direction from the junction of the main highway with Pio Pio–Tatu Main Highway and terminating at a point 12 chains measured along the road in a south-westerly direction from the said junction.
All that area at Pio Pio consisting of the Pio Pio–Tatu Main Highway from its junction with the Auckland-Wellington via Taranaki Main Highway to a point 7 chains measured along the road in a southerly direction from the said junction.
All that area consisting of Pio Pio–Mangaohae Main Highway No. 544 from its junction with the Auckland-Wellington via Taranaki Main Highway for a distance of 6 chains measured along the road in a northerly direction from the said junction.

PUBLICATION OF THE NEW ZEALAND NAUTICAL ALMANAC AND TIDE-TABLES FOR THE YEAR 1939.

THE New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide-tables for 1939, compiled at the Nautical Adviser’s Office, Marine Department, will be published at Wellington on the 1st November, 1938, and afterwards may be purchased from Government Shipping Offices, or the Marine Department, Wellington.
The publication will contain the following information :—
Tidal predictions, giving the daily times and heights of high and low water for the ports of Auckland, Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wellington, and Westport.
Time differences, by which the approximate time of high and low water may be obtained at 104 places within New Zealand.
Tidal-stream predictions, giving the approximate daily time of the flood and ebb streams making at French Pass and Tory Channel.
Daily times of sunset and sunrise at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington, and time differences by which similar approximate times may be ascertained for Invercargill, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Westport.
Magnetic variation (variation of the compass) at places throughout New Zealand for 1939, and places where abnormal variation has been experienced ; list of latest dated Admiralty charts of the coast and harbours of the Dominion, &c. ; list of New Zealand lighthouses, W/T Beacons, and fog-signals ; regulations for preventing collisions at sea ; New Zealand time-service for chronometer rating ; standard times of the world ; general harbour signals ; railway map and distances ; table of coastal distances ; list of Customs ports ; wireless-telegraph stations ; meteorology of the New Zealand region ; Pacific Ocean date-line ; list of licensed adjusters of compass and coastal pilots ; ports at which compulsory pilotage is in force ; system of buoyage ; closing of British ports ; and a list of signal letters of ships registered in the Dominion.
Information and plans relative to ports in New Zealand ; important notices to mariners issued by the Admiralty and Board of Trade and information for general use to navigators and others.
Astronomical ephemeris as required for use by navigators ; useful nautical tables with the necessary explanations ; principal articles of the calendar, holidays, &c. ; phases of the moon, mean places, and meridian passage of stars, &c.
Prospective purchasers, especially those desiring a number of copies, should make early application so as to receive a supply from the first issue, as some weeks may elapse between the first and subsequent issues.
The Nautical Almanac is published by direction of the Hon. the Minister of Marine : price 5s.

The Land and Income Tax (Annual) Act, 1938.

LAND-TAX PAYABLE.

BY Order in Council, made and issued by His Excellency the Governor-General in Council on the 19th day of October, 1938, under the authority of the above Act, it was determined that the duty by way of land-tax leviable under the said Act should be paid in one sum on Monday, the 7th day of November, 1938, at the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Government Buildings, Wellington, C. 1; and, in accordance with such Order in Council, I hereby give notice that the said duty will be payable accordingly.
Additional tax will accrue if the tax is not paid on or before 28th November, 1938. The liability to pay is not suspended by any objection. The tax should be paid on or before the prescribed date, otherwise the additional percentage accrues ; any overpayment will be adjusted by refund. The demands will be posted from the office of the Commissioner of Taxes on or about 31st October, 1938. Demands must be presented with all payments, and taxpayers who expect a demand and do not receive one should notify me of the fact.
