Appointments in the Public Service.
Office of the Public Service Commissioners,
Wellington, 14th September, 1938.
THE Public Service Commissioners have made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
William Carrol Harley, Esquire,
to be Chief Judge of the High Court of Western Samoa for the purposes of section 64 of the Samoa Act, 1921, as from the 29th day of September, 1938.
Gordon Brown,
Dougall Rollo,
to be District Registrars of Apprentices for the purposes of the Apprentices Act, 1923, as from the 12th day of September, 1938.
Harold John Worthington,
to be Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of New Zealand at Blenheim for the purposes of the Judicature Act, 1908, and Assistant Clerk of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, as from the 6th day of September, 1938.
Ernest Baden Anderson,
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Otaki, as from the 30th day of August, 1938.
Geoffrey Charles Gordon,
to be Deputy Registrar of Births and Deaths of Maoris at Nelson, as from the 12th day of September, 1938.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Block V, Whakatane Survey District, for the Purposes of a Quarry.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of a quarry: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Whakatane and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.

APPROXIMATE areas of the pieces of land required to be taken :—
A. R. P. Being Portion of
8 2 37 Lot 3, D.P. 10439, and being part Allotment 245, Parish of Waimana; coloured blue.
8 3 25 Lot 4, D.P. 10439, and being part Allotment 245, Parish of Waimana; coloured red.
Situated in Block V, Whakatane Survey District (Auckland R.D.). (S.O. 29190.)
In the Auckland Land District; as the same are more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 100008, deposited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks X, XIII, and XIV, Tauhara Survey District, and Block I, Waitahanui Survey District.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1928, to execute a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a road—and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken: And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Waitahanui and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.
