to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Health Act, 1920, and an officer for the purposes of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908, as from the 19th day of April, 1938.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman, Bay of Islands County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

BAY OF ISLANDS COUNTY COUNCIL.
PURSUANT to section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that at a poll of ratepayers of the County of Bay of Islands taken on the 11th day of May, 1938, on the proposal of the County Council to borrow the sum of ten thousand pounds for the purpose of constructing, in concrete, bridges throughout the county—

I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.

Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22.—Fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Boot Retailers’, (2) Drapers’, (3) Fancy-goods Dealers’, (4) Furniture-dealers’, (5) Hardware-dealers’ and (6) Mercers’ Shops within the Borough of Wairoa.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) boot retailer, (2) draper, (3) fancy-goods dealer, (4) furniture-dealer, (5) hardware-dealer, and (6) mercer, within the Borough of Wairoa, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas, I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough :
Now, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 32, I do hereby direct that on and after the 11th day of July, 1938, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows :—
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 8.30 p.m.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing has been forwarded to me from the occupiers of shops in each of the trades of (1) boot and shoe dealer, (2) clothier, (3) cycle-dealer, (4) draper, (5) fancy-goods dealer, (6) furnisher, (7) grocer, (8) hardware-dealer, (9) jeweller, (10) radio-dealer, (11) saddler, and (12) stationer, within the Borough of Tauranga, pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22 :
And whereas I, Hubert Thomas Armstrong, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough :

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.15 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) When Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Anzac Day, or the King’s Birthday falls on the day upon which the late night is usually observed, then the closing-hour on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding such day shall be 9 p.m. ; (2) on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding Christmas Day and on the evening of the working-day immediately preceding New Year’s Day the closing-hour shall be 10 p.m.
The notice gazetted the 5th December, 1929, fixing the closing-hours of grocers’ shops within the Borough of Tauranga and the notice gazetted the 24th August, 1933, fixing the closing-hours of (1) boot and shoe retailers’, (2) clothiers’, (3) drapers’, (4) fancy-goods sellers’, (5) furniture and furnishings retailers’, (6) jewellers’, and (7) stationers’ shops within the Borough of Tauranga shall be and are hereby cancelled as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.
