GEORGE THE SIXTH, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India, to all to whom these Presents shall come: Greeting!

WHEREAS His late Majesty King George the Fifth did by Warrant under His Royal Sign Manual bearing date the First day of June One thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight ordain that the number of Companions of the Imperial Service Order shall not exceed seven hundred, of whom two hundred and fifty shall belong to Our Home Civil Service, two hundred to Our Civil Services in India, including the Staff of Our Secretary of State for India, and two hundred and fifty to the Civil Services of Our Dominions beyond the Seas, and Countries under Our Protection, including the Staff of the Crown Agents for the Colonies:

AND WHEREAS it is desirable that in the present year of Our Coronation We may be enabled to appoint Companions of the said Order in excess of the number so fixed:

NOW THEREFORE We do by these Presents for Us Our Heirs and Successors Ordain that there may be appointed supernumerary Companions in addition to the number of seven hundred mentioned in the aforesaid Warrant subject to the condition that vacancies occurring in the number of supernumerary Companions shall not be filled up.

Given at Our Court at Saint James’s the Third day of March, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-seven, in the First year of Our Reign.
