mantle similar to that assigned to the King of Arms of this Order, and shall wear, pendant from a gold chain round his neck, a badge, of gold and enamel, “on a field purpure the Cross of the Order surmounted by a representation of a closed book gules, clasps or, the whole within the circle and motto of the Order ensigned with the Imperial Crown.”

XLVI. It is Ordained that the Secretary of this Order shall be the person holding for the time being the Office of Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, that he shall collect and tabulate the names of those persons who are submitted to Us for admission to this Order or to be awarded the Medal of this Order; that in all ceremonies of the Order he shall be habited in a mantle similar to that assigned to the King of Arms of this Order, and shall wear, pendant from a gold chain round his neck, a badge, of gold and enamel, “on a field purpure the Cross of the Order surmounted by the medallion, with two pens saltirewise between the angles of the Cross in pearl enamel, the whole within the circle and motto of the Order ensigned with the Imperial Crown.”

XLVII. It is Ordained that the Gentleman Usher of the Purple Rod of this Most Excellent Order shall be appointed by Us, Our heirs and successors; that in all ceremonies of the Order he shall be habited in a mantle similar to that assigned to the King of Arms of the Order, and shall wear, pendant from a gold chain round his neck, a badge, of gold and enamel, “on a field purpure a representation of Britannia or, the whole within the circle and motto of the Order ensigned with the Imperial Crown,” and that he shall carry the Purple Rod of the Order, having at the top an escrol thereon the motto of the Order surmounted by a representation of Britannia.

XLVIII. It is Ordained that such mantles and insignia as in these Statutes the Officials of the Order are directed to wear shall be prepared at the charge of the Sovereign and be furnished by the Central Chancery of Our Orders of Knighthood upon receipt of a mandate issued for that purpose by the Grand Master of the Order, and that the Officials of the Order shall make arrangements for their return to the Central Chancery of Our Orders of Knighthood in the event of their vacating their offices or of their decease.

XLIX. It is Ordained that all and every of the Officials of this Order shall, over and above the duties more specially imposed by the foregoing Statutes, execute diligently whatever the Sovereign or Grand Master may be pleased to command touching the interests of the said Order, and that the said Offices of Prelate, King of Arms, Registrar, Secretary, and Gentleman Usher shall be held during good behaviour.

L. It is Ordained that the Miniature Badges to be worn by the Members of the five Classes of this Order shall be reproductions of the Badges of the respective Classes, save that they shall in all cases be only one-half the size of the Badge hereinbefore Ordained for Members of the Fourth Class, or Officers, of the Order.

It is also Ordained that Sealed Patterns of the said Miniature Badges shall be deposited and kept in the Central Chancery of Our Orders of Knighthood.

LI. We do hereby command and enjoin that these Statutes shall be of such and the same force, virtue and effect in every respect as if they had been duly made, and the said acts, deeds, matters and things had been duly done, on the Fourth day of June, 1917.

LII. Lastly, We reserve to Ourselves, Our heirs and successors full power of annulling, altering, abrogating, augmenting, interpreting or dispensing with these Statutes and Regulations or any part thereof by a notification under the Sign Manual of the Sovereign of the Order.

Given at Our Court at Saint James’s, the Thirtieth day of July, One Thousand Nine hundred and Thirty-seven, in the First Year of Our Reign.
