XXIV. It is Ordained that the Insignia and Robes of the Sovereign of this Order shall be of the same material and fashion as are hereinafter appointed for the Knights Grand Cross, save only with those alterations which distinguish Our Royal Dignity.
XXV. It is Ordained that the Grand Master shall wear the Insignia and Robes of a Knight Grand Cross, save that the Badge for the Grand Master shall be augmented in such manner as the Sovereign shall command.
XXVI. It is Ordained that the Knights Grand Cross and Dames Grand Cross shall at all Investitures of the Order and upon all great and solemn occasions to be appointed, wear mantles of rose-pink satin, lined with pearl grey silk, fastened with a cordon of pearl grey silk, having two rose pink and silver tassels attached thereto, on the left side of which mantles shall be embroidered a representation of the Star of a Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross of the said Order, which shall be composed of chipped silver rays of eight points in the centre whereof shall be a gold medallion bearing the crowned effigies of His late Majesty King George the Fifth and Her Majesty Queen Mary combined within a circle gules inscribed with the motto “For God and the Empire” in letters of gold. And we do command that on all occasions whatsoever the Knights Grand Cross and Dames Grand Cross shall wear the Star upon the left side of their coats or outer garments. And We do command that the Knights Grand Cross and Dames Grand Cross of this Most EXCELLENT ORDER shall wear, at all Investitures of the Order and on all days usually termed “Collar Days,” a collar, of silver gilt composed of six medallions of Our Royal Arms and six medallions of the Royal and Imperial Cypher of His late Majesty King George the Fifth alternately, linked together with cables thereon Our Imperial Crown between two sea lions, from which shall hang the Badge of the First Class of the Order, which shall consist of a cross patonce, enamelled pearl, fimbriated or, surmounted by a gold medallion as in the Star of the Order, and ensigned with the Imperial Crown or; on the reverse of the Badge shall be engraved the Royal and Imperial Cypher of His late Majesty King George the Fifth. That on all other occasions the Knights Grand Cross and Dames Grand Cross shall wear the Badge of the Order suspended from a rose pink riband edged with pearl grey passing from the right shoulder to the left side. In the case of Knights Grand Cross the riband to be of the breadth of four inches, with, for Military Knights Grand Cross, the addition of a vertical pearl grey stripe in the centre of the riband of a width of about one quarter of an inch, and in the case of Dames Grand Cross to be of the breadth of two inches and one-quarter, but without the addition for Military Dames Grand Cross of a vertical pearl grey stripe in the centre of the riband.
It is further Ordained that all Ordinary and Honorary Knights and Dames Grand Cross who have received, or shall receive, Collars of this Order shall make arrangements for their return to the Central Chancery of Our Orders of Knighthood in the event of the said Knights Grand Cross or Dames Grand Cross either receiving Collars of an Order of higher rank and precedence or of their decease; Foreign Ambassadors and Ministers at the Court of Saint James’s on whom The Sovereign is pleased to confer the Dignity of an Honorary Knight Grand Cross transmitting their Collars of the Order to the Central Chancery on their return to their own Countries; and We are pleased to declare that every Ordinary or Honorary Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross who receives a Collar of this Order shall upon receiving the Collar give a written undertaking and promise to comply with this Ordinance.
XXVII. It is Ordained that the Military and Civil Knights Commanders shall wear around their necks a riband of the same colour and pattern as that of the Military and Civil Knights Grand Cross, of the breadth of one inch and three-quarters, the vertical pearl grey stripe in the case of Military Knights Commanders to be of the width of about one-sixteenth of an inch, and pendent therefrom from the Badge of the Knights Commanders of the Order, which shall be of similar form and pattern to that appointed for the Knights Grand Cross, but of smaller size; and also that they shall wear on the left side of their coats or outer garments a chipped silver star composed of four greater and four lesser points, charged with
