Date of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to fill Extra-
ordinary Vacancy on the Invercargill Fire Board.

Wellington, 21st December, 1937.
PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, and the
rules made thereunder, the Minister charged with the
administration of the said Act doth hereby appoint Thursday,
the 13th day of January, 1938, to be the date for holding
the election of one member of the Invercargill Fire Board by
the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being
held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation
of Mr. R. A. Wilson.

Authorizing the Laying-off of Roads of less Width than 66 ft.
WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is
inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land
shown upon the plan of Town of Paraparaumu Extension
No. 8, affecting part Section 8, Ngarara West B Block,
Block III, Kapiti District, is intended to be used wholly
for residential purposes, that the proposed streets shown
therein as Nathan Street, Falla Street, Whyte Street, Golf
Road, and the extension of Nathan Street to Esplanade
Reserve should be of the width of 66 ft. ;
Now, therefore, I, Frank Langstone, Minister of Lands, do
hereby, in pursuance of the power conferred upon me by
section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of
every power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-
off of Golf Road of a width of not less than 60 ft. ; Nathan
Street, Falla Street, and Whyte Street of a width of not less
than 50 ft. ; and the extension of Nathan Street of a width
of not less than 40 ft. : Provided always that it shall not be
lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any
building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such
roads.

Kaitaia Drainage Area, Rural Subdivision.-Notice of
Intention to amend Special Rate.
Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 20th December, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to
the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments,
to amend the annually recurring special rate made and levied
on the 18th day of December, 1930, on the unimproved
value of all land within the Rural Subdivision of the Kaitaia
Drainage Area by increasing such rate to the amount set
out in the Schedule hereto, such amended rate to be an
annually recurring rate to meet interest and repayment of
capital for the period from the 1st April, 1930, until the
moneys in respect of which it is made are paid off, and such
amendment to take effect in respect of the year ending the
31st day of March, 1938, and every subsequent year during
the period aforesaid.
The amount of such amended rate shall, for the year ending
31st March, 1938, be payable in one sum on the 15th February,
1938, and in future years in one sum on the 30th August in
each year.
The valuation roll and the rate-book are open for inspection
at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage
Engineer's Office, Room 45, Government Buildings, Customs
Street West, Auckland, and a copy of same may be inspected
at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, Kaitaia, at all
times at which those offices are open respectively, for the
transaction of public business.
SCHEDULE.
CLASS A: On the unimproved value of all land classified as
Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under
section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928,
twenty-one pence and ninety-two one-hundredths of a penny
(21.92d.) in the pound.
Class B: On the unimproved value of all land so classified
as Class B, sevenpence and sixty-seven one-hundredths of
a penny (7.67d.) in the pound.
Class C: On the unimproved value of all land so classified
as Class C, threepence and twenty-nine one-hundredths of
a penny (3.29d.) in the pound.

Kaitaia Drainage Area.-Notice of Intention to make and
levy General Rates.

Wellington, 20th December, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to
the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments,
to make and levy, on the unimproved value of all land
within the Kaitaia Town District Subdivision of the Kaitaia
Drainage Area constituted under the said Act, the general
rate described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the
unimproved value of all land in the Subdivision of the
Kaitaia Drainage Area outside the Kaitaia Town District
the general rates described in the Second Schedule, such
respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance-
costs for the period from the lst April, 1937, to the 31st
March, 1938.
The amount of the general rates, together with the annually
recurring special rates already made and levied, will be
payable in one sum on the 15th February, 1938.
The valuation roll and the rate-book of the district will
be open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates,
Chief Drainage Engineer's Office, Room 45, First Floor,
Government Buildings, Customs Street West, Auckland,
and copies of same may be inspected at the office of the

RURAL SUBDIVISION.
Class A: On the unimproved value of all land classified as
Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under
section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928,
tenpence and twenty-three one-hundredths of a penny
(10.23d.) in the pound.
Class B: On the unimproved value of all land so classified
as Class B, threepence and fifty-eight one-hundredths of a
penny (3.58d.) in the pound.
Class C: On the unimproved value of all land so classified
as Class C, one penny and fifty-three one-hundredths of a
penny (1.53d.) in the pound.

Notice as to an Area in Wellington Land District declared to
be a Fire District.
State Forest Service,
Wellington, 21st December, 1937.
PURSUANT to section twenty-seven of the Forests Act,
1921-22, and section six of the Forests Amendment Act,
1925, I do hereby notify that on the recommendation of the
Director of Forestry and the Land Board of the district, the
area described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared by me
to be a fire district, and I do further specify the period from the
first day of November in any year to the thirtieth day of
April in the following year, inclusive, as the period during
which it shall not be lawful for any person within the said
district save pursuant to the written permit of a Forest
Officer, to set on fire, or cause to be set on fire any timber
whether standing or not, or any undergrowth, or any debris
from forest operations, or any land-clearing operations, or
grass, or other specially inflammable material, without taking
such precautions as may be prescribed by a Forest Officer.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.-WELLINGTON FOREST-
CONSERVATION REGION.
Eastern Bays Forest Fire District.
ALL that area in the Wellington Land District, Hutt County,
containing approximately 2,150 acres, situated in Block XVI,
Belmont Survey District, and bounded generally as follows:
Commencing at a point on the high-water mark of Port
Nicholson in line with the southern boundary of Section 77,
Hutt District; thence towards the north by a line to the
south-western corner of the said section and by that section;
