These lots are situated on Avonhead No. 2 Settlement, two miles from Riccarton Post-office and School and approximately five miles and a half from Christchurch Post-office. Both lots have a frontage to the new road now being formed, connecting Withells Road with Avonhead Road, and the areas offer good residential-sites for any one with outside work in the district.
Conditions of Sale.

Cash: One-fifth of the purchase-money on the fall of the hammer, and the balance, with title fee and loading for improvements, within thirty days thereafter.

Deferred Payments: Deposit of £15, amount of weighting for improvements and £1 1s. license fee to be paid on the fall of the hammer, balance by equal half-yearly instalments of principal and interest extending over a period of thirty-four and a half years, but with the right to pay off at any time the whole or any part of the outstanding amount.

In either case, if the purchaser fails to make any of the prescribed payments by due date, whether of purchase-money or interest, the amount already paid shall be forfeit and the contract for sale of the land shall be null and void.

Settlement Lands in Otago Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Dunedin, 8th December, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned sections are open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 10th January, 1938.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, 12th January, 1938, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
Applicants are required to produce for inspection when examined documentary evidence of their financial position, such a bank pass-books, certificates or letters of credit from managers of banks, financial institutions, or mercantile firms, or from private persons or parents undertaking to give financial assistance. Persons undertaking to assist financially should state to what extent they are prepared to do so and supply guarantees of their own financial position.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants, and the successful applicant is required to pay immediately at conclusion of ballot a deposit comprising the first half-year’s rent, broken-period rent, lease and mortgage fees, and deposit in reduction of improvement loading.
SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT. — SECOND-CLASS SETTLEMENT LAND.
Clutha County. — Clifton Settlement.
SECTION 328: Area, 641 acres 3 roods 6 perches. Capital value, £3,880. Half-yearly rent, £97.
Weighted with £1,085 16s. 6d. for improvements, comprising six-roomed dwelling, stable, sheds, hut, yards, and dip, 1,400-gallon concrete tank, piping, and trough; full-value 541 chains fencing and half-value 153 chains. This sum is payable in cash, or, after payment of a deposit of £185 16s. 6d., the balance of £900 will be payable by fifty-nine half-yearly instalments of £27, interest at 5 per cent. with a final instalment of £307 5s. 6d. on a 364-year table.
The section is situated eight miles from Waiwera Township, Railway-station, and School by good formed and metalled road, and comprises undulating land with fairly well sheltered ridges. The soil is fairly sharp loam, and responds well to lime and manure treatment. The property is free from noxious weeds, and is fairly well watered by creeks and river.

Clutha County. — Pomahaka Downs Settlement.
Sections 5 and 18, Block XIV: Area, 581 acres 0 roods 20 perches. Capital value, £1,200. Half-yearly rent, £30.
Weighted with £235 for improvements, comprising dwelling and outbuildings, fencing, plantations, and shelter belts. This sum is payable in cash, or by a deposit of £35, and the balance of £200 over a period of fifteen years by half-yearly instalments of £9 11s. 2d. principal and interest combined.
The sections are situated approximately eleven miles from Waipahi Post-office, Railway-station, and Saleyards, and four miles from Popotunoa School by formed and metalled road, and comprise all easy undulating land. The soil consists of a light loam resting on a clay bottom, and will grow oats and root crops. The property is all in old pasture; watered by creeks and springs.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE NOTICE.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Hokitika, 1st December, 1937.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Hokitika, at noon on Friday, the 17th day of December, 1937.
SCHEDULE.
All the milling-timber on that piece of land containing 27 acres, in Block I, Hanpiri Survey District, Provisional State Forest No. 1611, about twenty miles from the Ngahere Railway-station.
The total estimated quantity of timber in cubic feet is 40,400, or in board feet 257,370, made up as follows:—

Terms of Payment.
A marked cheque for one-third of the sum tendered, together with £1 1s. license fee, must accompany the tender, and the balance be paid in two equal monthly instalments, the first falling due one month after the date of sale.
Terms and Conditions.

All instalment-payments shall be secured by “on demand” promissory notes made and endorsed to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of State Forests, and interest at the rate of 1 per cent. per annum in excess of current bank overdraft rates will be charged on all notes overdue from the date of maturity to the date of payment.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921-22, the regulations in force thereunder, and these conditions.

The aforementioned quality, quantity, and kind as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, or kind as stated herein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.

A return giving the number of logs cut of each species and their contents must be made quarterly by the licensee on the last days of March, June, September, and December, respectively, in each year. A return must also be made on the same dates showing the output of sawn timber of each species. These returns may be ascertained and verified by inspection of the books of the mill, or by such other means as the Conservator may require, and for this purpose the accounts and books shall be open to the inspection of the Conservator, a Forest Ranger, or other duly authorized officer.
