Fixing the Amount of Special Orchard-tax payable in the Rangiora Fruitgrowing District.—(Notice No. Ag. 3443.)

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by subsection (3) of section 4 of the Orchard-tax Act, 1927, I, William Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, hereby order and direct that, in addition to the general orchard-tax payable under section 3 of the said Act, the occupier of every orchard within the Rangiora commercial fruitgrowing district shall in each year be liable to pay a special orchard-tax calculated at the rate of one shilling (1s.) for every acre or part of an acre comprised in his orchard and planted with apple-trees, pear-trees, or quince-trees.

PURSUANT to the provisions of subsection (2) of section 48 of the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, notice is hereby given that the land described in the Schedule hereto, being the land known as Galatea Settlement, was acquired by the Crown on the 31st day of March, 1932, and became subject to the provisions of the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, as from that date.

ALL that area in the Whakatane County, containing by admeasurement 22,316 acres 2 roods 39·9 perches, more or less, situated in Blocks V, VI, VII, IX, X, XI, XIII, and XIV, Galatea Survey District, and Blocks I and II, Ahikereru Survey District, being Haumamako No. 1 (110 acres), Kuhawaea No. 2A (70 acres 3 roods 23 perches), part No. 1 (21,613 acres 0 roods 39·9 perches), and parts 2B (403 acres 3 roods 17 perches and 118 acres 3 roods) Blocks, and being the whole of the land comprised in Certificates of Title, Volume 631, folios 156, 157, 158, and 159, Auckland Registry Office : Bounded towards the north generally by part Waiohau No. 1B Block, the crossing of a public road, and again part Waiohau No. 1B Block ; towards the east generally by the Urewera “ A ” Block (Crown land) ; towards the south-west generally by the Whirinaki River, the crossing of a public road, and again by the Whirinaki River ; and towards the north-west generally by the Rangitaiki River ; save and excepting an intersecting public road, and those portions of closed road-line, declared subject to the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, by Gazette, 1934, page 976.

NOTICE is hereby given that pursuant to an application in that behalf made to me by the Waingawa Slaughtermen’s and Slaughtermen’s Assistants’ Industrial Union of Workers, registered number 1400, situated at Carterton, and in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 22 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1925, it is my intention to cancel the registration of that industrial union after the expiration of six weeks from the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette unless in the meantime cause is shown to the contrary.
