HENRY CHURCHILL PALMER, Esquire, of Nhill, Victoria, a solicitor of the Supreme Court of the State of Victoria, has this day been appointed by the Right Honourable Sir Michael Myers, K.C.M.G., Chief Justice of New Zealand, a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in the State of Victoria under the 47th section of the Judicature Act, 1908, for the purpose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirmations as in the said section mentioned.

Notice as to licensing of certain Industries under Part III of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936.

PURSUANT to the authority conferred on me by section 14 of the Industrial Efficiency Act, 1936, I hereby give notice that the industry hereinafter specified may, on and after the taking effect of this notice, be carried on only pursuant to a license issued under Part III of the said Act. This notice shall take effect in accordance with the following provisions, namely :—
(a) In the case of persons who, on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, are lawfully engaged in carrying on the industry to which this notice relates, this notice shall (except as hereinafter mentioned) take effect on the 1st day of December, 1938, or on such earlier or later date (if any) as may hereafter be specified by a further notice under the section hereinbefore referred to. If any person to whom this paragraph relates desires to increase the number of his fishing-boats or to alter the size or dimensions of any of such boats, or to acquire any Danish seine-nets for the purposes of his business (otherwise than in replacement of existing seine-nets), he shall give notice to the Bureau of his intention, and he shall not effect such change or acquire such nets except with the consent of the Bureau or pursuant to a license under Part III of the said Act.
(b) In all other cases this notice shall take effect on the date of its publication in the Gazette.
The industry to which this notice relates is the following :—
The taking of fish for purposes of sale.
In this notice—
“Fish” does not include salmon, trout, whitebait, or oysters; but, save as aforesaid, includes every description of fish and of shell-fish found in New Zealand waters.
“Fishing-boats” includes any vessel of whatever size and however propelled which is used in the taking of fish for purposes of sale.
“Taking” means taking with the use of a fishing-boat, and includes attempting to take.

The foregoing provisions of this paragraph shall apply only with respect to the carrying on of the industry referred to in the same premises and with the same plant as are respectively in use at the date of this notice. If any person to whom this paragraph relates desires to effect any substantial extension or alteration of his premises, or to install any new plant designed or intended to effect a substantial increase in the output of his business, he shall give notice to the Bureau of his intention, and he shall not effect such change except with the consent of the Bureau or pursuant to a license under Part III of the said Act.
(b) In all other cases this notice shall take effect on the date of its publication in the Gazette.
The industry to which this notice relates is the following :—
The export of fish (whether fresh or preserved).
In this notice—
“Fish” does not include salmon, trout, whitebait, or oysters; but, save as aforesaid, includes every description of fish and of shell-fish found in New Zealand waters.
