Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Grocers’ Shops within the Borough of Pahiatua.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the grocers’ shops within the Borough of Pahiatua, has been forwarded to me desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 9 p.m.; excepting during the period from 1st April to 30th September in each year, both dates inclusive, when the closing-hour on Saturdays shall be 8.30 p.m.:

Authorizing the Laying-off of Roads of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS in the opinion of the Minister of Lands it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Hanmer Extension No. 12, affecting part Section 10, Hanmer Plains Reserve, Block I, Lyndon Survey District, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that Dorset and Devon Streets shown therein should be of the width of 66 ft.:

Now, therefore, I, Frank Langstone, Minister of Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the power conferred upon me by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-off of such roads of a width of not less than 40 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.

Given under my hand, this 6th day of February, 1936.
FRANK LANGSTONE, Minister of Lands.

Wheat, Oats, and Barley.—Estimated Yields.

Census and Statistics Office,
Wellington, 13th February, 1936.

THE following estimated average yields per acre of wheat, oats, and barley for the season 1935–36 have been compiled from reports furnished by Stock Inspectors of the Department of Agriculture throughout the Dominion, and are now published for general information.

District. Wheat. Oats. Barley.
Bushels per Bushels per Bushels per
Acre. Acre. Acre.
North Island .. .. 29 38 44
Nelson .. .. 20 29 30
Marlborough .. .. 36 48 45
Canterbury .. .. 35 43 32
Otago .. .. 33 37 39
Southland .. .. 39 49 50
Average (estimated) for
the Dominion .. .. 35 43 38

The above estimates may be compared with last season’s actual average yields, which were: Wheat, 26·32 bushels; oats, 35·99 bushels; and barley, 26·28 bushels.

In accordance with the above estimates, the total yield of wheat for the season 1935–36 should be approximately 8,400,000 bushels, as against an actual yield of 5,933,245 bushels for the season 1934–35.

The area from which oats were threshed for the five seasons ending with 1934–35 averaged 21 per cent. of the total area under that crop. Assuming that a similar proportion is threshed this year, the total yield of grain should be approximately 3,160,000 bushels, as against an actual yield of 1,890,145 bushels for the season 1934–35.

On a similar assumption in regard to barley, the total yield of grain should be approximately 700,000 bushels, as against an actual yield of 484,689 bushels for the season 1934–35.
