Amending Rules for the Examination of Engineers.

Marine Department,
Wellington, 28th September, 1933.

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-one, and published in the Gazette of the fifth day of March following, at page 479, rules were made relating to the examination of engineers in the mercantile marine:
And whereas by Warrant dated the twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and thirty-one, and published in the Gazette of the fifth day of the following month, at page 1431, the said rules were amended:
And whereas it is desirable to further amend the said rules:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 23 of the Shipping and Seamen Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I do hereby make the following amendments to the hereinbefore-recited rules.

RULES.

  1. THE hereinbefore-recited Warrant of the 29th day of April, 1931, is hereby revoked.

  2. Rule 8 is hereby amended by revoking all words from “The examinations for other certificates of competency,” &c., to the end thereof, and substituting the following in lieu thereof:—

“The examinations for other certificates of competency as engineers will be held at the places and commence on the days specified hereunder:—

“At Auckland on the third Monday in January, March, May, July, September, and November.

“At Hamilton on the first Monday in January, May, and September.

“At Napier on the first Monday in February, June, and October.

“At Wanganui on the first Monday in February, June, and October.

“At New Plymouth on the first Monday in February, May, August, and November.

“At Palmerston North on the first Monday in February, June, and October.

“At Wellington on the first Monday in February, April, June, August, October, and December.

“At Nelson on the first Monday in February, June, and October.

“At Greymouth on the first Monday in February, June, and October.

“At Christchurch on the first Monday in January, March, May, July, September, and November.

“At Dunedin on the first Monday in February, April, June, August, October, and December.

“At Invercargill on the first Monday in April, August, and December.

“At the following places on the first working-day (except Saturday):—

“At Gisborne after the 14th February and the 14th August.

“At Timaru after the 14th May and the 14th October.

“At Whangarei after the 4th January and the 4th June.

“The examination days herein specified are liable to occasional alteration.

“Where any one of the days herein specified is a public holiday the examination will commence on the first working-day thereafter.”
