Exportation of Goods to China.—Marks of Origin required.

Customs Department,

Wellington, 2nd August, 1933.

I T is hereby notified for public information that advice has been received that the Government of China have promulgated the following regulations, operating on and after lst January, 1934, governing the marking of all foreign goods imported into China :—

  1. All imported goods, as well as their containers and packing, must be marked in a conspicuous place with the name of the country of origin (i.e., the country of original manufacture) in Chinese characters. Such marks are to be of a durable nature.

  2. Any imported goods not bearing the required marks shall be marked under Customs supervision (on payment of the usual fee), failing which their importation shall be prohibited.

  3. Imported goods in the following circumstances may be exempted from bearing marks showing the country of origin on the goods themselves :—

(a) When the containers or packing, which are sold together with the goods, have already been distinctly marked.

(b) When the nature of the goods is such that they cannot be marked, tagged, or in any other way display identification.

  1. In the event of goods on import being discovered to bear forged marks the goods shall be confiscated by the Customs.

For the information of exporters the equivalent in Chinese characters of the words “Made in New Zealand” is set out hereunder.

Sale of Unclaimed Bicycles.

Police Department,

Wellington, 4th August, 1933.

TT is hereby notified that a number of unclaimed bicycles in the hands of the police at Christchurch Police Station will, if not claimed before Thursday, the 31st August, 1933, be sold thereafter by public auction.

Particulars as to the time and place of sale may be obtained from the Superintendent of Police at Christchurch.

Land Surveyor's Examination, September, 1933, Australia and New Zealand.

The Survey Board of New Zealand,

Wellington, 7th August, 1933.

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Survey Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for registration as surveyor, commencing at 10 a.m. on Monday, 18th September, 1933, at Wellington.

Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than Monday, 4th September, and that the examination fee as undernoted must be paid at the same time to the Secretary, from whom application forms and other particulars may be obtained.

Candidates sitting for the first time will be accepted at this examination, and must sit in Wellington ; fee, £5 5s.

Candidates completing former sittings may sit in other centres where there is a Chief Surveyor's office, on payment of an extra fee of £1 1s. in addition to the ordinary fees which are as under :—

Completing in one or two compulsory subjects, fee of £1 1s. per subject. (Physics, Geology, and Forestry paper is not included.) Examination in all subjects, fee of £5 5s.

ADVERTISEMENT OF CANCELLING.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Registrar of Friendly Societies has, pursuant to section 70 of the Friendly Societies Act, 1909, by writing under his hand dated the 7th day of August, 1933, cancelled the registry of Loyal Palmyra Lodge, No. 8068, of The Nelson District of the New Zealand Branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows Friendly Society (Register No. 312(3)/8), held at Tadmor, on the ground that the said branch has ceased to exist.
