CROWN LANDS NOTICE.
Settlement Land in Wellington Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office.
Wellington, 11th July, 1933.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned section is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 2.30 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 24th July, 1933.
Applicants should appear personally for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, 26th July, 1933, at 10 o’clock a.m., but if any applicant is unable to attend he may be examined by any other Land Board or by any Commissioner of Crown Lands.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants.
SCHEDULE.
WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—FIRST-CLASS LAND.—SETTLEMENT LAND.
Oroua County.—Gorge Survey District.—Curvic Settlement.
Section 2, Block III.: Area, 95 acres 0 roods 20 perches. Capital value, £2,445. Renewable lease: half-yearly rent, £61 2s. 6d.
Buildings, comprising an incomplete dwelling, a cow-byre, and a shed, are valued at £105, and may be paid for in cash or by twenty equal half-yearly instalments in advance of £6 16s. each, principal and interest.
Improvements included in capital value are valued at £512, and comprise 62 chains boundary-fencing, 150 chains internal fencing, 90 acres clearing, and 80 acres ploughed and grassed.
A dairying property situated on a side road off the Ashhurst–Palmerston North Road, one mile and a half from Ashhurst Post-office, School, and Saleyards, and one mile from Ashhurst Railway-station by good metalled roads. Ashhurst Dairy Factory is two miles and a half distant. The section, which is subdivided into ten paddocks, comprises practically all flat land divided into two levels by a terrace. 90 acres are ploughable. The soil is of light loam and silt resting on shingle and sand formation. Altitude, 500 ft. above sea-level.

STATE FOREST SERVICE NOTICE.
Milling-timber for Sale by Public Tender.
State Forest Service,
Invercargill, 10th July, 1933.
NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders at per cubic foot for the purchase of the undermentioned milling-timber will close at the office of the State Forest Service, Invercargill, at 4 o’clock p.m. on the 4th day of August, 1933.
SCHEDULE.
SOUTHLAND FOREST-CONSERVATION REGION.—OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.
Sole purchasing-rights for plantation-thinnings of millable size to be cut, extracted, and delivered, subject to conditions contained in the license, to forest roads in the following plantations:—
Dusky .. .. State Forest No. 77.
Conical Hills .. .. State Forest No. 68.
Pukerau .. .. State Forest No. 92.
Estimated available quantity of thinnings to 4 in. top inside bark: 900,000 cub. ft.
Upset price: 1/93d. per cubic foot.
Payments will be based on quantities assessed by the State Forest Service, who will measure log-lengths and mid-diameters outside bark and calculate cubic contents.
Term of license: Five years.
Terms of Payment.
(a) A marked cheque for £250, plus £1 1s. license fee, must accompany each tender. The former sum shall be held in deposit as a guarantee against default by the purchaser in payments and failure to observe the terms and conditions of the license.
(b) Payments and delivery charges (if any), in terms of clauses contained in the Schedule hereof, for timber delivered to the purchaser or removed from the forest by him, shall be paid on or before the 25th day of the calendar month next following month of delivery.
(c) Default in meeting payments and other charges on due dates shall render the purchaser liable to a surcharge of 10 per cent., or the forfeiture of the whole or portion of the deposit mentioned herein.
(d) To assist the purchaser in developing the exploitation of the forest-thinnings mentioned herein a discount of 20 per cent. will be granted upon all timber-purchase payments; such discount will be limited to the first year of the license only.
Terms and Conditions.

The right to cut and remove the timber will be sold in accordance with the provisions of the Forests Act, 1921–22, the regulations in force thereunder, and those conditions.

The aforementioned qualities, quantities, and kinds as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purposes of this sale, and no contract for the purchase shall be voidable, nor shall the successful purchaser be entitled to any abatement in price, by reason of the said timber being of less quantity, quality, or kind as stated therein or in any advertisement having reference to the said timber.

(a) The minimum quantity of timber which may be purchased in any one year during the currency of the license shall not be less than 80,000 cub. ft., and if the purchaser fails to take delivery of the prescribed quantity, he may be called upon to pay for the whole of the said timber.
(b) The maximum quantity of timber which may be delivered to the purchaser by the State Forest Service in any one year shall not exceed 180,000 cub. ft.

The purchaser shall not be permitted to transport loads over plantation roads which exceed 4½ tons gross weight on six wheels or 2½ tons gross weight on four wheels. Tonnage shall be computed on the basis of 25 cub. ft. per ton for timber in the round, or 30 cub. ft. per ton for sawn or squared timber. The purchaser shall be liable for all damage caused through a breach of this condition.

The attention of all tenderers is drawn to the fact that the local controlling body may require the successful tenderer to pay any claims or charges which may be made by that body for the maintenance of any road over which the timber may be transported.

Special conditions providing for safeguarding the forests from fire or other damage will be inserted in the license to be granted to the purchaser, and intending tenderers are advised to make themselves acquainted with these provisions, as well as other provisions which govern sawmill-sites, type of plant permitted, disposal of sawdust and other refuse, and erection and use of buildings.
