Appointments in the Public Service.
Office of the Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 12th August, 1932.
THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
George Ernest Miller, Esquire,
to be Deputy of the Superintendent in accordance with the provisions of the State Advances Act, 1913, as from the 11th day of August, 1932.
Arthur Reginald Coad, Esquire,
to be District Public Trustee at Wellington, as from the 11th day of August, 1932.
Cuthbert Freyberg, Esquire,
to be District Public Trustee at Palmerston North, as from the 15th day of August, 1932.
Constable John Albert Elstone
to be Clerk and Bailiff of the Magistrates’ Court at Kawakawa for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1928, as from the 3rd day of August, 1932.
Constable William Cooper,
to be Clerk of the Warden’s Court, Receiver of Gold Revenue, and Mining Registrar at Waikaia for the Otago Mining District constituted under the Mining Act, 1926, as from the 25th day of July, 1932.

Applying the Provisions of Section 135 of the Public Works Act, 1928, to Oratia Stream Bridge.
WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the Minister of Public Works may, on the recommendation of the Main Highways Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”), by notice in the Gazette, declare that the provisions of section 135 of the Public Works Act, 1928, in so far as it provides for the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway in so far as such cost is not provided for out of the Main Highways Account:
And whereas on the 17th day of August, 1932, the Board resolved as follows: “That in terms of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, the Honourable Minister of Public Works be recommended to apply the provisions of section 135 of the Public Works Act, 1928, to the Oratia Stream Bridge on the Auckland-Helensville Main Highway”:
Now, therefore, I, John George Cobbe, Minister of Justice, acting for Joseph Gordon Coates, Minister of Public Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the said section 7, and of every other power in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby declare that the provisions of section 135 of the Public Works Act, 1928, in so far as they provide for the apportionment of cost of construction, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of the Oratia Stream Bridge on the Auckland-Helensville Main Highway.

Kaitaia Drainage Area.—Notice of Intention to make and levy General Rates.
Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 11th August, 1932.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, to make and levy, on the unimproved value of all land within the Kaitaia Town District Subdivision of the Kaitaia Drainage Area constituted under the said Act, the general rate described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land in the Subdivision of the Kaitaia Drainage Area outside the Kaitaia Town District the general rates described in the Second Schedule, such respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance costs for the period from the 1st April, 1932, to the 31st March, 1933.
The amount of such rates, less a subsidy of fourteen shillings (14s.) in one pound (£1), together with the annually recurring special rates already made and levied, will be payable in one sum on the 30th August, 1932.
The valuation roll and the rate-book of the district will be open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, Room 44, 1st Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street, Auckland, and copies of same may be inspected at the office of the Chief Drainage Engineer, Kaitaia, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
TOWN SUBDIVISION.
On the unimproved value of all land within the Kaitaia Town District—Sixty-three one-hundredths of a penny (0·63d.) in the pound.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
RURAL SUBDIVISION.
Class A: On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928—Fivepence and eighty-nine one-hundredths of a penny (5·89d.) in the pound.
Class B: On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class B—Twopence and six one-hundredths of a penny (2·06d.) in the pound.
Class C: On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C—Eighty-eight one-hundredths of a penny (0·88d.) in the pound.

Waihi Drainage Area.—Notice of Intention to make and levy General Rates.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, to make and levy on the unimproved value of all land within the Pukehina Subdivision of the Waihi Drainage Area constituted under the said Act, the general rates described in the First Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land included in the Central Subdivision the general rate described in the Second Schedule hereto, and on the unimproved value of all land in the Kaikokopu Subdivision the general rates described in the Third Schedule hereto, such respective rates being for the purpose of meeting maintenance costs for the period 1st April, 1932, to 31st March, 1933.
The amount of such rates will be payable in one sum on the 30th August, 1932, when the annually recurring special rates already made and levied will also be payable.
The valuation roll and the rate-book of the district will be open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer’s Office, Room 44, 1st Floor, Government Buildings, Customs Street, Auckland, and copies of same may be inspected at the office of Mr. H. W. Earp, Clerk, Kaituna River Board, Te Puke, at all times at which those offices are open for the transaction of public business.

Class C: On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C—Fivepence and forty-three one-hundredths of a penny (5·43d.) in the pound.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
CENTRAL SUBDIVISION.
Class A: On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928—Sixpence and eight-tenths of a penny (6·8d.) in the pound.
THIRD SCHEDULE.
KAIKOKOPU SUBDIVISION.
Class A: On the unimproved value of all land classified as Class A by the persons appointed to classify lands under section 3 of the Swamp Drainage Amendment Act, 1928—Threepence and seventy-three one-hundredths of a penny (3·73d.) in the pound.
Class B: On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class B—Twopence and nine-tenths of a penny (2·9d.) in the pound.
Class C: On the unimproved value of all land so classified as Class C—One penny and sixty-six one-hundredths of a penny (1·66d.) in the pound.
