SCHEDULE OF EXAMINATION SUBJECTS.

  1. The schedule of subjects for the Class C Examination shall be—

Part I (Compulsory Subjects).

(1) Education.
(2) English Language.
(3) English Literature.
(4) Principles and Practice of Teaching.
(5) School and Personal Hygiene.
(6) Music.
(7) Needlework (for women only).
(8) Drawing (Freehand and Blackboard).
(9) Physical Education.

Part II (Optional Subjects).

Division I—
(10) Geography, including Physiography and Economic Geography.
(11) Agriculture and Dairy Science.
(12) Physical Science.
(13) Chemistry or Domestic Science.
(14) Biology or Botany.

Division II—
(15) Latin.
(16) French.
(17) Pure Mathematics.
(18) Psychology or Experimental Pedagogy.
(19) History.
(20) School Handwork.
(21) Woodwork and Metalwork.

CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE EXAMINATION.

  1. Candidates may take the subjects of the examination in any order and in any number, except that not more than one subject may be taken from Part II in addition to those that are required to complete the examination.

  2. Exemption from examination in any subject for Class C may be obtained—
    (1) By passing in that subject at a degree examination recognized by the University of New Zealand:
    (2) By gaining not less than 45 per cent. of the possible marks in that subject at the Entrance Scholarship Examination of the University of New Zealand:
    (3) By passing in that subject at any other examination approved for this purpose by the Director.

  3. A candidate who satisfies the Director that he is unable on account of natural defects to comply with the requirements in vocal music may be permitted to substitute for the subject Music (6) a subject selected from Part II of the examination schedule.

  4. Candidates shall be credited with passes in individual subjects, except in the Training College Entrance Examination, in which credit shall be given only for a full pass or for a partial pass, as defined in clause 15 of the Regulations relating to Training Colleges.

DATE OF EXAMINATION AND EXAMINATION CENTRES.

  1. The examination of candidates for Class C certificates shall be held every year in the month of August or September commencing, in general, during the last fortnight in August. The examination shall be held at such convenient centres as the Director shall from year to year appoint.

NOTICE OF CANDIDATURE: ENTRANCE FEE AND LATE FEE.

  1. (1) Every candidate shall give notice of his wish to be examined, the notice being given on a form of application provided for that purpose and procurable at the office of any Education Board. The notice shall be sent so as to reach the office of the Education Department, Wellington, not later than the 30th day of June before the examination, and shall be accompanied by a receipt for the payment of the amount of the entrance fee as hereinafter prescribed. Such fee shall be paid to the Public Account at any branch of the Bank of New Zealand or, where there is no such branch, into a money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department.
    (2) The fee payable for the Class C Examination shall be 15s. for each subject, provided that the maximum fee payable at any one examination shall not exceed £3 15s.
