PASSANGERS—continued.

  1. Except otherwise provided, passengers holding ordinary, season (except annual season tickets, Regulation 13), commutation, or excursion tickets between stations where there are alternative routes will, if they pay fares for the shorter route, be allowed to travel by that route only; but if fares are paid for the longer route passengers may travel by either route. Except otherwise specified in the case of annual season tickets, the holders may travel only over the lines actually specified on the tickets in each case.

  2. When the holder of a season ticket is unable to produce such ticket for the journey being made, he will require to pay the appropriate fare for such journey, but no booking fee will be charged.

  3. Reserved Seats, &c.

  4. Except as otherwise provided passengers travelling by express or mail trains may, if they so desire, reserve seats for the journey upon payment of 1s. for each seat so reserved: Provided that seats will not be reserved for a journey of less than 100 miles on the 7.0 p.m. Auckland—Wellington or the 7.15 p.m. Wellington—Auckland, Limited Express trains, except between Wellington and Palmerston North and between Auckland and Frankton Junction, and vice versa in each case.

  5. Seats may also be reserved on the following trains:—
    By the 4.40 p.m. Rotorua — Frankton Junction passenger-train.
    By the 8.20 a.m. Wanganui — New Plymouth passenger-train.
    By the 1.50 p.m. New Plymouth — Wanganui passenger-train.
    By the 7.25 a.m. Palmerston North — Napier passenger-train.
    By the 2.52 p.m. Napier — Palmerston North passenger-train.
    By the Christchurch—Culverden (or Waiau)—Parnassus passenger-trains from Christchurch to Culverden (or Waiau)—Parnassus, or vice versa.
    By the Dunedin—Cromwell mixed-train from Dunedin to Hindon, or any other station beyond Hindon.
    By the Cromwell—Dunedin mixed-train.
    By the Gore—Kingston passenger-train from Gore to Kingston, or vice versa.

Applications for the reservation of seats will be received as under:—
(a) At the station from which the train commences its journey, not later than one hour before the time-table time of departure of the train.
(b) At any station other than that from which the train commences its journey, not later than two hours and a half before the time-table time of departure of the train from the original starting station.
(c) The departure times of certain trains as shown in this regulation may be changed, and in the event of any such change the provisions of this regulation shall apply to the corresponding train (if any) in each case, as determined by the General Manager.

  1. Not more than one seat will be reserved for each passenger.

  2. Seats may be reserved on the day or in advance of the day the passenger desires to travel, at any station where there is an officer in charge, the City or Central Booking-offices at Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch, or duly authorized booking agencies. The Department reserves the right to cancel trains or alter train time-tables without notice, and reservations of seats will be made subject to such cancellation or alteration.

  3. Reserved-seat tickets are not transferable and are not available for break of journey.

  4. Notwithstanding anything contained in these provisions, the Department shall have the right, subject to such conditions as it may think fit, to reserve on any train, for any distance, any railway-carriage, or any compartment or seat in a railway-carriage (for any particular reason), for any person or class of persons.

  5. Sleeping-berths.

  6. Applications for the reservation of sleeping-berths will be received as under:—
    (a) At the station from which the train commences its journey: Not later than one hour before the time-table time of departure of the train from the starting-station.
    (b) At any station other than that from which the train commences its journey: Not later than two hours and a half before the time-table time of departure of the train from the original starting-station.

  7. Sleeping-berths may be reserved on the day or in advance of the day on which the passenger desires to travel, at any station where there is an officer in charge, the City or Central Booking-offices at Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch, or duly authorized booking agencies.
