the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight, nor shall any cartridge be used the length of which exceeds 2¾ in.

  1. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the North Auckland, Auckland, Taranaki, and Wellington Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Mokau River, and proceeding thence along high-water mark, Tasman Sea, in a northerly direction generally (crossing the mouths of all rivers and harbours by the way) to the Kaipara Harbour entrance to a point midway between Kaipara Heads; thence up the centre of the channels, Kaipara Harbour, leading to the mouth of the Oruawhero River; thence by the southern boundaries of the Hobson and Whangarei Acclimatization Districts as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1925, pages 750 and 754, to the Mangawhai Harbour; thence by the middle of that harbour to the sea; thence along high-water mark of the sea, Hauraki Gulf, Firth of Thames, and Pacific Ocean (crossing the mouths of all rivers and harbours by the way) to the mouth of the Waihi River, in Block III, Waihi North Survey District; thence south-westerly along a right line to Mount Te Aroha Trig. Station; thence north-easterly along a right line (in the direction of Ngakuriwhare Trig. Station, Block I, Katikati North Survey District) to the western boundary of the Tauranga Confiscation Block; thence south-easterly by right lines from hill to hill along the summit of the range forming the western boundary of the aforesaid Tauranga Confiscation Block, and passing over Ngatamahineran, Mimiotohana, and Waianuanu to Te Weraiti Trig. Station; thence south-easterly along a right line to Puwhenua Trig. Station, in Block VII, Tapapa East Survey District; thence south-westerly along a right line to Pureora Trig. Station; thence southerly along a mountain range passing through Weraroa, Tuhingamata, Motere, and Hauhangaroa Trig. Stations to Maungaku Trig. Station; thence southerly along the western boundary of the Waione Block to the Wanganui River; thence down the middle of that river to its confluence with the Ohura River; thence up the middle of the Ohura River to the 39th parallel of south latitude; thence westerly along the said parallel of latitude to the western boundary of Block IV, Pouatu Survey District; thence due north along that boundary and the western boundary of Block XVI, Waro Survey District, to the confiscation line; thence north-easterly along that line to the Tangarakau Stream; thence up the middle of that stream, and up the middle of the Wai-taanga Stream to the Kotare Road, at the southern boundary of Section 2, Block VII, Waro Survey District; thence westerly along the Kotare Road to the south-west corner of Section 1, Block VII; thence along the south-west boundary of the said section and along the southern, western, and northern boundaries of Section 3, Block VI, Waro Survey District, to the western boundary of Section 4, Block VI, Waro Survey District; thence along the western boundaries generally of Sections 4 and 5, and along the south-western and northern boundaries of Section 6 (all in Block VI, Waro Survey District) to the Mohakatino Road; thence northerly along that road to a stream which crosses the Mohakatino-Paraninihi 1d East Block, and flows into the Mohakatino Stream near the westernmost corner of Section 1, Block III, Waro Survey District; thence down that stream to the said confluence and up the said Mohakatino Stream and along the northern boundary of Section 3, Block III, Waro Survey District, to Tawhitiraupeka Trig. Station; thence along the south-western and western boundaries of Mokau-Mohakatino 1n Block to the Mokau River; thence down the middle of that river to the sea, the place of commencement; including in the hereinbefore described area Great Barrier Island and all islands (excepting Rangitoto) within the Hauraki Gulf.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in Condition No. 3, excepted from the open season, wherein imported game and native game shall not be taken or killed.

  1. Little Rotongaro Lake, near Huntly.

  2. Section 36, Selwyn Settlement, containing 3,400 acres, known as Afforestation Ltd., the property of N.Z. Perpetual Forests, Ltd.

  3. Sections 64, 65, 59, 5, 11, 22, and 121, Block XV, Ohinemuri Survey District, containing 835 acres, the property of E. and G. Hollis.

  4. Part Sections 5 and 6, Block II, Waihi North Survey District, containing 860 acres, the property of K. Bjerring, O. Madsen, and N. O. Christensen.

  5. Section 24, Block XII, Ohinemuri Survey District, containing 400 acres, the property of C. Christensen.

  6. Allotment 238, Parish of Takapuna, containing 38 acres, the property of R. Barnett.

  7. Blocks 239, 240, 241, 242, 243, 244, 245, 247, 248, Parish of Takapuna, containing 384 acres, the property of R. W. Duder.

  8. Part 5, Paremoremo and Te Wharau No. 2 and Lot 1, Section 25, Takapuna Part 50, containing 490 acres, the property of J. W. Coleman.

  9. Block 246, Takapuna Parish, containing 57 acres, the property of F. J. Quick.

  10. Sections 2, 3, 4, Block V, Waitoa Survey District, containing 1,300 acres, the property of Messrs. J. A. Hart and J. Mulhare.

  11. Section A 7A, A 8A, A 8B, A 8C, 1,000 acres, Te Akau, Raglan County, the property of Hazel M. Kinder.

  12. Rangitoto A 52A, A 52C, A 52D, A 52E Blocks, containing 1,259 acres, the property of Bedford Park, Limited, Korakonui.

  13. Sections 51 and 51A, Parish of Manurewa, being R. J. Self’s Beachlea Downs property.

  14. That portion of the Coromandel Peninsula lying north of the main road between Tapu, Coroglen, and Whitianga.

Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fee, &c., Bay of Islands Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 30th day of June, 1931 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Bay of Islands Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in Condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian quail, Australian quail, grey duck, and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of May, 1931 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district, except as above for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., black teal; and the period from the 1st day of January, 1932, to the 31st day of March, 1932 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district except as above for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game (including godwits), within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each; and licenses to take or kill the following native game only—viz., godwits—will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the Secretary of the Bay of Islands Acclimatization Society, or any person authorized by such Secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed ten cock pheasants, and twenty head in all of grey duck, black teal, and black swan.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits (or the following native game only—viz., godwits), shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game or native game including godwits (or godwits only), on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

  4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight, nor shall any cartridge be used the length of which exceeds 2¾ in.

  5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

  6. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any
