Open Season for Wapiti Shooting, Lakes District Acclimatization District (Fiordland National Park).

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 2nd day of March, 1931, to the 31st day of May, 1931 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in portion of the Lakes District Acclimatization District for the taking or killing of the following imported game—viz., wapiti stags and hinds—within that part of the said acclimatization district comprising portion of the Fiordland National Park, subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

NOTWITHSTANDING anything contained in the Warrant made under the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, dated the 20th February, 1929, published in the New Zealand Gazette of 21st idem, and in the Warrant published in the New Zealand Gazette of 12th February, 1931, wapiti (stags and hinds) may be taken or killed within that portion of the Fiordland National Park, within the Lakes District Acclimatization District, during the period hereinbefore mentioned, by persons to whom licenses may be issued by the Postmaster at Queenstown, pursuant to the Warrant published in the New Zealand Gazette of 12th February, 1931, declaring an open season for wapiti shooting, in the Lakes District Acclimatization District, subject, however, to the conditions fixed in that Warrant.

Notice respecting Proposed Alteration of Boundaries.—Borough of Ashburton.

Wellington, 12th February, 1931.

IT is hereby notified that a petition has been presented to His Excellency the Governor-General under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, and amendments, praying that the area described in the Schedule hereto may be excluded from the County of Ashburton and included in the Borough of Ashburton.

All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration of boundaries which they desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice, such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

AREA PROPOSED TO BE EXCLUDED FROM THE COUNTY OF ASHBURTON AND INCLUDED IN BOROUGH OF ASHBURTON.

All that area in the Canterbury Land District, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the left bank of the Ashburton River, being the north-western corner of the Borough of Ashburton; thence north-westerly along the left bank of the Ashburton River to the north-western corner of Lot 54, Allenton; thence along the north-western boundary of said Lot 54 and the production of that boundary to the eastern side of Alford Forest Road; thence along the eastern side of Alford Forest Road to the north-western side of James Street; thence easterly along the north-western side of James Street to Winter’s Road; thence across Winter’s Road and southerly along its north-eastern side to the north-western side of Cavendish Road; thence north-easterly along the north-western side of Cavendish Road to Middle Road; thence across Middle Road and along its north-eastern side to the north-western corner of Lot 159; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundary of said Lot 159 to Wakanui Creek; thence down Wakanui Creek to the south-eastern side of Creek Road; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern side of Creek Road to the north-western corner of Lot 134; thence along the south-western boundary of said Lot 134 to a point 700-7 links distant from the north-western side of West Street; thence along a line parallel to and distant 700-7 links from the north-western side of West Street to the Wakanui Creek; thence down the Wakanui Creek to the boundary of the Borough of Ashburton; thence south-westerly, north-westerly, and again south-westerly along the borough boundary to the left bank of the Ashburton River, the place of commencement.

Open Season for Wapiti Shooting, Lakes District Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 2nd day of March, 1931, to the 31st day of May, 1931 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Lakes District Acclimatization District, described in the First Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game—viz., wapiti stags and hinds—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill wapiti stags and hinds may be issued by the Postmaster, Queenstown, on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Lakes District Acclimatization Society, on payment of a license fee of £10, in the form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and regulations thereunder and this notification: Provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. Licenses to be issued only to parties of two stalkers.

  2. No licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill wapiti stags and hinds shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill wapiti stags or hinds on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, nor shall authorize the holder thereof to enter upon any State forest for the purpose of taking or killing wapiti stags or hinds without the express written permission of the Conservator of Forests, Invercargill, first had and obtained.

  4. The fees paid for licenses issued pursuant to this notification shall, after deducting the cost of and incidental to the issue of such licenses, and any other expenses in connection therewith, be paid to the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts and the Lakes District Acclimatization Society in equal proportions.

  5. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable on conviction to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

Lakes District Acclimatization District.

All that area in the Otago and Southland Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Awarua River in Big Bay, and proceeding thence along a right line to Mount Aspiring; along the summit of the Southern Alps and a spur range to Mount Kuri; along a spur to the Wilkin River; down that river; along the centre of Lake Wanaka; down the Clutha River and up the Cardrona River to the northern boundary of Block I, Lower Wanaka; easterly and southerly along the boundaries of that block to its south-eastern corner along a right line to Mount Pisa; down the Roaring Meg Stream, and up the Kawarau River to the confluence of the Nevis River; along a right line to Mount Rosa, and along the summits of the Remarkables and Hector Ranges to the northern boundary of Section 2, Block III, Nokomai Survey District, and along the north-western boundaries of Sections 3 and 4 to the Mataura River; thence up the Mataura River to its source on Eyre Peak; thence by a right line to Jane Peak; thence to Hummock Peak; thence along the watershed to Mount Lookup; and thence still following the watershed to Round Peaks; thence westerly by a right line to Mount Eglington; thence by a right line to Largs Peak; thence by a right line to Skelmorlie Peak; thence along the range to Mount Anau; thence along the range to a point in line with Castle Mount and Cloudy Pass in Bligh Sound; thence by a right line through Castle Mount to Cloudy Pass aforesaid; thence generally northerly by the sea-coast to the mouth of the Awarua River, the place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

License to take or kill Imported Game (Wapiti).

, of , having this day paid the sum of £10, is hereby authorized to take or kill wapiti stags and hinds within the Lakes District Acclimatization District from the 2nd day of March, 1931, to the 31st day of May, 1931 (both days inclusive), subject to the provisions of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, and all regulations and notifications affecting wapiti made thereunder and in force within the Lakes District Acclimatization District.

This license does not authorize the holder thereof to take or kill wapiti stags or hinds on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, nor does it authorize the holder thereof to enter any State forest for the purpose of taking or killing
