| 7/5/36 | Oils, viz.: Crude petroleum, crude residual oil, once-run shale oil, and crude distillates of petroleum, Tariff item 394 (6):— Any oil exceeding 0·880 in specific gravity at 60° F., claimed to be admissible under this Tariff item, shall not be so classified unless it complies with one of the appropriate groups of conditions following, viz.:— 1st group (applicable to crude petroleum, once run shale oil, and crude distillates of petroleum)— (a) The heat of bromination shall exceed 4·5° C., and (b) When 100 cc. of oil are distilled in an Engler distillation flask (top of thermometer bulb about 10 mm. below bottom side of tube), after the first 5 cc. of distillate have passed over, the next 85 cc. shall have a distilling range of more than 140° C. 2nd group (applicable to once-run shale oil and crude distillates of petroleum)— (a) The heat of bromination shall exceed 2° C., and (b) The maximum flash-point shall be 250° F. by Pensky-Marten closed test, and the maximum viscosity 100 at 70° F. by Redwood’s viscometer. 3rd group (applicable to crude residual oil)— (a) The heat of bromination must exceed 4·5° C. (b) When diluted with White Rose kerosene (0·5 gm. oil in 25 cc. kerosene) it shall give an appreciable deposit on standing in a test tube all night. |
