  1. It shall be unlawful for any person to fish with more than
    two flies, or one fly and one minnow, or one fly and one natural
    bait, or two natural baits affixed to any trace. No fly shall
    have more than one hook, and it shall not be lawful to use
    more than one lead or sinker, and such lead or sinker must
    be tied above all flies, minnow, or natural bait used: Provided
    that in the Maitai and Riwaka Rivers and in the Happy Valley
    Stream only artificial fly shall be used.
  2. It shall be unlawful to use any wire, either plain or
    twisted, or gimp trace of a greater gauge than 21 standard
    wire gauge.
  3. It shall be unlawful to use any wire or gimp trace of a
    greater length than 6 ft. The provisions contained in this
    regulation and the two regulations immediately preceding
    shall not apply to single hooked flies size 10 (old numbers)
    or smaller, or to wire traces not exceeding 28 standard wire
    gauge.
  4. Trout shall not be fished for, taken, or killed otherwise
    than with one rod and line, but a landing-net or gaff may be
    used to secure any trout caught with such a rod and line;
    and no lures or baits other than natural or artificial flies,
    insects, worms, or fish shall be used with such rod and line.
  5. No license shall authorize any person other than the
    person named therein to fish.
  6. No person shall take, kill, or have in his possession any
    of the salmonidae or trout between the first day of May and
    the thirtieth day of September in any year, which period is
    hereby appointed a close season for all such fish: Provided
    always that this regulation shall not apply to fish caught by
    the officers of the Marine Department or of an Acclimatization
    Society or the General Manager of the Department of Tourist
    and Health Resorts, for the purpose of pisciculture or scientific
    investigation.
  7. No person shall cast or throw into any stream in which
    trout or salmon exist or have been liberated, or shall allow
    to flow into or place near the bank or margin of any such
    stream, any sawdust or sawmill refuse, lime, sheep-dip, flax-
    mill refuse, or any other matter or liquid that is noxious,
    poisonous, or injurious to fish: Provided that nothing herein
    contained shall extend to prohibit the depositing in such
    stream of debris from any mining claim.
  8. Save as provided herein or by any other regulations
    under the said Acts, no person shall take, fish for, catch, or
    kill, in any manner whatever, or have in his possession, any
    salmon, salmon-parr, or smolts, or the ova, young, or fry of
    any salmon in any stage whatever; and any of the above-
    named taken by accident or otherwise shall immediately be
    returned alive into the water from which the same is taken.
  9. No person shall fish for trout without a license; and
    every person fishing shall on the demand of any ranger,
    constable, officer of the said society, or of any person producing
    a license, produce and show to such ranger, officer, constable,
    or person his license, and the contents of his creel or bag,
    and the bait used by him for taking, catching, or killing such
    trout.
  10. Every trout not exceeding eleven inches in length from
    nose to tip of tail taken or caught by any person shall immediately be returned alive into the water from which the
    same is taken.
  11. No cross-line fishing, stroke-hauling, wilful foul-hooking,
    spearing, or any other unsportsmanlike device shall be used
    for the purpose of taking, catching, or killing trout; nor shall
    any of the above-mentioned baits be used with any medicated
    or chemical preparation whatever.
  12. Except as provided in these or other regulations under
    the said Acts, no person shall put, throw, drag, draw, or place
    or allow to be put, thrown, dragged, drawn, or placed for any
    purpose whatever any net of any description or any instrument,
    or device, or means for taking trout in any river or stream
    within the district aforesaid, or in the outlet, mouth, or entrance
    of any such river or stream.
  13. For the purposes of these regulations the mouth or
    entrance of every such river or stream shall be deemed to
    include every outlet of the same and the seashore between
    such outlets, and shall extend over a radius of 500 yds.
    from the point or line where the waters of such river or
    stream meet those of the sea or of any harbour at low water.
  14. No person shall buy, sell, or expose or offer for sale, or
    shall fish for the purpose of obtaining for sale, any trout, or
    any part thereof.
  15. No person shall take or catch more than twenty trout
    in any one day: Provided that in the case of the Maitai
    River it shall be unlawful to take or catch more than ten
    trout in any one day.
  16. The penalty for the breach of any of these regulations
    shall not be less than 40s. or more than Β£50.
  17. If any person shall be convicted of an offence against
    these regulations, the license (if any) held by the offender shall
    thereupon become void.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
NELSON ACCLIMATIZATION DISTRICT.
All that area in the Nelson Land District, bounded towards
the north-west and north-east generally by Tasman Sea, Golden
Bay, and Tasman Bay, from Kohaihai Bluff, in Block XIII,
Whakapoa Survey District, to a point on shore of Croisettes
Harbour due west of the westernmost point of Elaine Bay;
thence towards the north by a right line running due east to
the said westernmost point of that bay and by southern shore
of that bay to its south head; thence towards the south-east
generally by a right line to Trig. Station Y (boundary trig.)
and by a line along the summit of the range over Mount
McLaren, Editor Peak, Mount Duppa, and Saddle Hill to the
source of the Heringa Stream; thence by a line down the
middle of that stream to its confluence with the Pelorus River;
thence by a line up the middle of the Pelorus River to its
source near Red Hills; thence by a right line to the summit;
thence by a line along the summit of the range over Red Hills,
Mount Rintoul, and Bush Cone to the summit of Ward's Pass;
thence by a right line to Trig. Station Top 2 (Mangatawhai);
thence by a line along the summit of St. Arnaud Range and
the summit of the Spencer Mountains; thence towards the
south-west by a line along the summit of the southern watershed of the Maruia River to Mount Haast; thence by a
line due north to the right bank of the Inangahua River and
along that bank to and up the left bank of the Buller River
to the mouth of the Eight-mile or Boundary Creek; thence by
a line up a leading spur on the western side of said Boundary
Creek to Bald Hill, and by a line along the summit of Lyell
Range, and along the summit of a range over Mount Luna to
Mount Arthur; thence towards the south-west by a line along
the summit of the Western Ranges over Mount Peel and Mount
Snowden to Mount Cobb; thence towards the south-east by
a line along the summit of range over Mount Domett and
down a leading spur to the Tasman Sea at Kohaihai Bluff,
the place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.
LICENSE TO FISH.
The Fisheries Act, 1908, and its Amendments.
The holder of this license [Name in full], of [Address],
[Calling or occupation], having this day paid the sum of Β£
, is hereby authorized to fish with only one rod and line
for trout within every acclimatization district in New Zealand,
except in Rotorua Acclimatization District and Taupo waters,
from the day of , 19 , to the day of
, 19 , subject to the said Acts and to the general
regulations for the time being in force in the Nelson
Acclimatization District, and to the local regulations for the
time being in force in other acclimatization districts.

Acclimatization District.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House at Wellington, this 14th day of
April, 1930.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him
by the Fisheries Act, 1908, and its amendments, His
Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make
the following regulations for all that part of the Dominion
known as the Ashburton Acclimatization District and the
waters thereof, as the same is defined in the First Schedule
hereof; and doth hereby declare that these regulations shall,
as from the date of the publication hereof in the New Zealand
Gazette, supersede all other regulations for the said district,
and such regulations are hereby revoked.

REGULATIONS.

  1. LICENSES to fish for trout, perch, tench, or other acclimatized fish (being fish not indigenous to New Zealand waters)
    within the said district may be issued under the hand of the
    Secretary of the Ashburton Acclimatization Society or any
    one authorized by the said Secretary in that behalf, and such
    license shall entitle the person named therein to fish in the
