The total live births registered for the urban areas amounted to 982 as against 1,080 in November, a decrease of 98. The deaths in December were 531—a decrease of 5 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 275, females 256. Forty-seven of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 8·85 per cent. of the whole number. Thirty-four of these were under one year of age.

The equivalent annual rates per 1,000 of mean population for December, 1929, and twelve months ended December, 1929, were as follows. The infant-mortality and still-birth rates per 100 births for the same period are also given.
