Alterations to Scale of Charges upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1926, and its amendments, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, William Burgoyne Taverner, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic, made on the 10th day of August, 1925, and published in the Gazette of 11th August, 1925.

PART I.—PASSENGERS.

  1. GENERAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.

By omitting the following :—

  1. Tickets may be obtained at the booking-office at stations where there are officers in charge fourteen days in advance of the day on which passengers desire to travel.

And substituting the following :—

  1. Tickets may be obtained on the day or in advance of the day the passenger desires to travel, at any railway-station where there is an officer in charge, the city or central booking offices at Auckland, Rotorua, Napier, Wellington, or Christchurch, or duly authorized booking agencies.

  2. RESERVED SEATS.

By omitting the following :—

  1. Seats may be reserved at any officered station fourteen days in advance of the day on which the passenger desires to travel.

And substituting the following :—

  1. Seats may be reserved on the day or in advance of the day the passenger desires to travel, at any station where there is an officer in charge, the city or central booking offices at Auckland, Rotorua, Napier, Wellington, or Christchurch, or duly authorized booking agencies. The Department reserves the right to cancel trains or alter train time-tables without notice, and reservations of seats will be made subject to such cancellation or alteration.

By adding the following :—

  1. Passengers holding first-class rail tickets may occupy and reserve seats in the special “Lounge” car, on payment of the following charges :—
    For distances not exceeding 150 miles, 4s. per seat.
    For distances exceeding 150 miles and not exceeding 300 miles, 6s. per seat.
    For distances exceeding 300 miles, 7s. 6d. per seat.
    A “Lounge” car is attached to the following trains :—
    7.53 a.m. Auckland–Wellington express train.
    7.52 a.m. Wellington–Auckland express train.

  2. SLEEPING-BERTHS.

By omitting the following :—

  1. Subject as hereinbefore provided, sleeping-berths may be reserved at any officered station fourteen days in advance of the day on which the passenger desires to travel.

And substituting the following :—

  1. Sleeping-berths may be reserved on the day or in advance of the day on which the passenger desires to travel, at any station where there is an officer in charge, the city or central booking offices at Auckland, Rotorua, Napier, Wellington, or Christchurch, or duly authorized booking agencies. The Department reserves the right to cancel trains and alter train time-tables without notice, and reservations of sleeping-berths will be made subject to such cancellation or alteration.

LOCAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.

  1. NORTH ISLAND MAIN LINE AND BRANCHES.

By adding to subparagraph (c) of paragraph 2, the following :—
The return fares from Auckland to Rotorua will be—

The return fares from Newmarket to Rotorua will be—

The fares between the following stations will be :—
