  1. ENLISTMENT.—As the New Zealand Naval Defence Act, No. 45, of 1913, section 11, provides that every person enlisting in the Naval Forces of the Dominion of New Zealand must take and subscribe an oath or affirmation of enlistment, this form of engagement must be completed, and the oath or affirmation executed at the time this agreement form is signed. Section 13 (2) of the Act provides that every rating discharged to shore in New Zealand shall be drafted into the Royal Naval Reserve, in which he remains until he reaches the age of forty. This entails no obligation in the time of peace, but renders the rating liable for Naval service in time of war.
