The northern pair, in transit 098°, are intended as a leading line on which to approach the anchorage; and the southern pair, in transit 168°, to mark the position on the leading line at which to anchor; which is approximately 7·61 cables 320° from the Observation Spot.

The depth of water at the anchorage is 18 fathoms, coral sand; and there is swinging room of approximately 420 ft.

Remarks: The beacons marked on the chart do not exist.

NEW ZEALAND.—COOK STRAIT.—QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND ENTRANCE.

Discoloured Water: Locality examined.

Previous Notices: Wellington Notice No. 22 of 1929; and Admiralty Notice No. 484 of 1929.

Position: At a distance of 4·09 miles 308° from Brothers Light. Lat. 41° 04′ S., long. 174° 23′ E. (approx.).

Details: An examination of the locality in which discoloured water was reported to exist discloses a least depth of 33 fathoms at M.L.W.S.

Notice to Mariners No. 64 of 1929.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—CAPE EGMONT LIGHT.

  1. Alteration from fixed to flashing.
  2. Temporary light to be exhibited.
  3. Signal and telegraph station discontinued.

Previous Notices: Wellington Notices Nos. 12 and 54 of 1929 (temporary); hereby cancelled.

Position: Lat. 39° 17′ S., long. 173° 46′ E. (approx.).

  1. Date of Alteration: 9th December, 1929.

Alteration: The existing fixed light is to be altered to automatic, unwatched, group-flashing showing three flashes every forty seconds, thus: flash ·4 second; eclipse 7·4 seconds; flash ·4 second; eclipse 7·4 seconds; flash ·4 second; eclipse 24 seconds.

Abridged Description: Gp. Fl. (3), ev. 40 secs., 103 ft., 15 m., (U).

Note.—Height, range, and arc of visibility will continue unaltered.

Remarks: The light will be unwatched.

  1. Temporary Light: During the period 25th November to 8th December (both inclusive), the existing fixed light will be discontinued; and a temporary fixed light, consisting of three fifth-order lights arranged 8 ft. apart inside the existing lantern and 2 ft. lower than the existing fixed light, will be exhibited. The temporary light may from short distances appear as two or three separate lights close together, and from further distances as only one light.

Visibility: It is expected the temporary light will be visible 10 miles.

  1. Signal and Telegraph Station: The signal and telegraph station has been discontinued.
