NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—CAPE FOULWIND.
Reported Shoal Ground unsuccessfully searched for.
Former Notice: Wellington Notice No. 66 of 1926.
Position: Cape Foulwind in Lat. 41° 45′ S., long 171° 28′ E. (approx.).
Details: The depths of 11 and 18 fathoms, reported to have been obtained at positions with Cape Foulwind Lighthouse bearing S. 80° E. (Mag.) distant 16 miles and E. ½ N. (Mag.) distant 16 miles, have been searched for by Captain J. W. Burgess, Government Lighthouse Steamer “Tutane Kai,” who reports: “Examined closely the locality of the reported shoal, and was unable to obtain a lesser depth than 75 fathoms, maximum depth 83 fathoms, the bottom being of a very even nature and composed of mud. No discolouration of the water being observed.”

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

NOTICE is hereby given that the lease of the undermentioned land having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Canterbury Land Board, the said land has thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1924, and the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, 1915.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 9th December, 1929, for a lease of the undermentioned reserve in terms of the Public Reserves, Domains, and National Parks Act, 1928.
SCHEDULE.
NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.
TIRITIRI ISLAND (part): Area, 344 acres 2 roods 6 perches. Upset annual rental, £40.
Abstract of Terms and Conditions of Lease.

Term of lease, twenty-one years, with one right of renewal for a further term of twenty-one years, but not exceeding forty-two years in all, the rental for the renewed term, if any, to be fixed by arbitration as provided by the Arbitration Act, 1908.

Rental payable half-yearly in advance. The first half-year’s rent at the rate tendered, together with £1 1s. (lease fee), to be deposited with tender.

The land is to be used for grazing purposes only, and no compensation will be allowed at any time for any improvements effected by the lessee.

Lessee shall not at any time cut down or otherwise destroy any pohutukawa or any other large tree growing on the reserve, and no burnings shall take place without the sanction of the Secretary, Marine Department, having been first obtained.

The Crown reserves the right to resume at any time any portion or portions of the area leased that may be required for lighthouse or other public purposes upon giving one month’s notice of the same in writing to the lessee, and thereupon a proportionate reduction in rent shall be allowed, but no compensation shall be claimed or allowed by reason of such resumption.

The lessee not to sublet or part with possession of the land leased or any part thereof without the consent of the Commissioner of Crown Land, North Auckland, first having been obtained.

Full rights of ingress, egress, and regress are reserved to the Crown or to duly authorized persons, and also the right to take from the property any material necessary for road works.

The right is reserved to the lighthouse-keepers to gather from any part of the island manuka scrub for fuel or for the purpose of mending fences.

The lessee to discharge all rates, taxes, and charges, and other assessments.

Lease liable to cancellation if rental payments thirty days in arrears; or on the breach of any covenant in the lease or of these conditions; or on the bankruptcy of the lessee; or on the entering into on the part of the lessee of any composition with his creditors.
The highest or any tender not necessarily accepted.
Tenders to be addressed “The Commissioner of Crown Lands, North Auckland District, Private Bag, Auckland,” and to be endorsed “Tender for Lease of Tiritiri Island.”

Pastoral Run in Hawke’s Bay Land District for License.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pastoral run is open for license for a term of thirty-five years; and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Tuesday, the 10th December, 1929, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1924.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Napier, on Thursday, 12th December, 1929, at 10.30 o’clock a.m.; but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.
SCHEDULE.
HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—HAWKE’S BAY COUNTY.—THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Kaweka and Pohui Survey Districts.
PASTORAL RUN 11: Area, 5,300 acres. Annual rental, £27. Term of license: Thirty-five years.
Situated for the most part on the eastern slopes of the Kaweka Range, about forty-two miles from Napier. Accessible from Puketitiri Township, which is distant about fourteen miles (three miles by pack-track, balance by formed road). Comprises fairly broken hill country, slopes varying from steep to easy. Principal growth on land fern, tutu, and manuka scrub, with small scattered patches of danthonia. Soil fair over pumice, with slate rock outcrops in parts. Well watered by Mohaka River and Makino and Mangatutu Streams. Elevation, 200 ft. to 3,500 ft. above sea-level.
ABSTRACTS OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LICENSE.

Applicant must be over twenty-one years of age.

One half-year’s rent, £1 1s. (license fee), and statutory declaration to be deposited on being declared the successful applicant. Rent commences from date of license.

No person may hold more than one run, except on the recommendation of the Land Board and with the approval of the Minister of Lands. If a husband holds a run his wife is deemed to be a runholder, and vice versa.

Improvements.—The licensee is required to effect improvements as follows:—
(a) Within one year from the date of his license, to a value equal to one year’s rent payable under the license:
(b) Within two years from the date of his license, to a value equal to two years’ rent payable under the license:
(c) Within six years from the date of his license, to a value equal to four years’ rent payable under the license.
- Rent is payable half-yearly, in advance, on 1st March and 1st September in each year. If not paid within thirty days of due date a penalty of 10 per cent. is added.
