Examination Rules under the Surveyors Registration Act, 1928.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section 20
of the Surveyors Registration Act, 1928 (hereinafter referred to
as “the said Act”), the Survey Board doth hereby revoke the regula-
tions under the Surveyors’ Institute Act, 1908, dated the 13th day
of July, 1913, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th
day of August, 1913; and doth also revoke the amendments thereof
made on the 22nd November, 1922; the 26th day of March, 1918;
the 19th day of June, 1919; and the 21st day of January, 1926; and
in lieu thereof doth hereby make the following rules for the guidance
of persons who desire to be examined in accordance with the provisions
of the said Act, or to obtain registration thereunder, and prescribing
the form of register to be kept, and doth hereby declare that such
rules shall come into force on the date of the publication thereof in
the New Zealand Gazette.


INTERPRETATIONS.

IN the interpretation of these rules, unless the context otherwise
indicates, the following terms shall have the meaning set against each
respectively—

The “Act” shall mean the Act under which these rules are made,
and shall include such other enactments with regard to land
surveying as may be made by Parliament or are in force at
the date hereof.

“Real Property Acts” shall mean and include the Land Transfer
Acts, the Deeds Registration Acts, and such other Acts
relating to or affecting the subdivision of land as have been
or may be passed by Parliament.

“Reciprocating State”: Any State, colony, Dominion, or Com-
monwealth within His Majesty’s Dominions which, in the
opinion of the Board, reciprocally recognizes the status of
surveyors in accordance with the conditions set forth in
these rules, and includes New Zealand.

“Board”: The Survey Board constituted under the Act.

“Reciprocating Board”: The duly constituted Board in a
reciprocating State.

“Secretary”: The Secretary appointed by the Board.

“Registered surveyor”: Any person who is registered by a
reciprocating Board as a licensed, qualified, authorized, certi-
ficated, or land surveyor.

“Articles”: An indenture or writing containing a contract or
an agreement for tuition in land surveying, made between
a registered surveyor and a person seeking to qualify
himself for registration as a surveyor.

“University”: A University in a reciprocating State or a
University recognized by such University.

“Register”: The register directed by the Act to be kept.


RULES.

EXAMINATION OF CANDIDATES.

Date of Examinations.

  1. Examination of candidates for certificates of competency as
    surveyors shall be held in Wellington in the month of September
    of each year, and at such other times as may be deemed advisable.
    The Board may also hold examinations in such other place or
    places than Wellington as it may deem desirable.

Candidates to apply.

  1. Each candidate shall forward to the Secretary an application
    for permission to present himself for examination, together with the
    documentary evidence specified in Part I hereunder, all of which
    must reach the Secretary at least fourteen days before the date
    fixed for the commencement of the examination, due notice of which
    will be published in the New Zealand Gazette.
    The examination fee prescribed in the Third Schedule must be
    paid on or before the date of commencement of the examination.
