Details: The position of Havre Rock is reported to be 315° 6⅓ miles from L'Esperance Rock.

Bar Soundings.
Former Notice: Wellington Notice No. 55 of 1927 (hereby cancelled).
Position: Lat. 35° 32′ S., long. 173° 21′ E., (approx.).
Details: On 3rd May, 1929, a line of soundings was taken across the bar, the shoalest water obtained being 24 ft. at high-water neap tide, the Flagstaff bearing 093½°.

Notice to Mariners No. 27 of 1929.

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—GREYMOUTH HARBOUR.
Harbour Light: Period to be altered.
Position: Lat. 42° 26′ S., long. 171° 13′ E. (approx.).
Alteration: The existing automatic gas flashing light is to be altered to an automatic electric occulting light, 10 seconds, thus: Light, 5 seconds; eclipse, 5 seconds.
Remarks: During the period to be occupied in making the alteration the existing flashing light will be discontinued and a fixed light will be exhibited in its place. Further notice will be issued.

Notice of the Date of Examinations under the Control of the Director of Education.
Education Department,

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned examinations will be held on or about the dates specified in each case:—
Senior National Scholarship Examination: 20th November, 1929, and following days.
Intermediate Examinations for Senior Free Places in Secondary Schools and District High Schools: 20th November, 1929, and following days.
Junior National Scholarships: 28th and 29th November, 1929.
Entries must be made as follows:—
For Junior National Scholarships: Through the head teacher of the school, to the Secretary of the Education Board, up to the 9th September.
For Senior National Scholarships: Through the head teacher to the Director of Education, Wellington, up to 9th September.
For the Intermediate (Senior Free Place) Examination; Through the head teacher, to the Director of Education, Wellington, up to the 9th September.
Those candidates who are recommended for a Senior Free Place under the provision of clause 7 (c) of the regulations relating to free places, as amended by Order in Council of the 1st November, 1926, shall, if required to sit for examination, be admitted without fee. Otherwise, each candidate’s application must be accompanied by a receipt for the payment of 10s. at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department of New Zealand.
Late applications for the three above-named examinations, accompanied by receipts for the payment of a late fee of 10s. at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department, will be received up to the 23rd September.
All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained from the office of any Education Board.

Notice of Date of the Public Service Entrance Examination.
Office of the Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 22nd May, 1929.
NOTICE is hereby given of the intention to hold the Public Service Entrance Examination on or about the 20th November, 1929, and following days.
For the examination a fee of £1 is payable.
Entries for the examination must be addressed “The Director of Education, Wellington,” and be sent so as to reach his office on or before the 9th September, 1929. Both male and female candidates will be admitted to the examination.
Late applications for the examination will be received up to the 23rd September if accompanied by a receipt for a late fee of 10s. (in addition to the £1 ordinarily payable), paid at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department.
All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained from the office of the Education Department or of any Education Board.
In accordance with the regulations, appointments to cadetships in the Public Service, in the order in which vacancies occur, will be offered to candidates in the order in which their names appear on the latest pass-list, provided that the applications from any lads who have at any time passed the matriculation or a higher examination shall receive prior consideration, in order of merit.
The regulations further provide that no one, except in such cases as the Commissioner may declare to be special cases, shall be appointed to a cadetship in the Clerical Division unless his age at the time of appointment is not less than fifteen nor more than eighteen years. In the case of a lad who has matriculated the maximum age is nineteen years.

NOTICE is hereby given that the lease of the undermentioned land having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Otago Land Board, the said land has thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1924.

TENURE: O.R.P. Lease No. 492. Section 9, Block XIII, Rimu Survey District. Lessee: Mrs. Jennie Linn McLachlan. Reason for forfeiture: Non-compliance with conditions of lease.
