Valley Lands Settlement Act, 1925, under the system of deferred payments providing for repayment of purchase-money in 34½ years, and where any person so acquires two allotments, such allotments shall be contiguous.
Except on the recommendation of the Land Board and with the approval of the Minister of Lands, it shall not be lawful for any lessee or licensee of land subject to the provisions of the Hutt Valley Lands Settlement Act, 1925, to transfer his interest in such land before the expiration of ten years from the date of the original disposal of the land under the aforesaid Act.
Title will be subject to section 85 of the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, and Part XIII of the Land Act, 1924.
The lands are described for the general information of intending bidders, who are recommended, nevertheless, to make a personal inspection, as the Department is not responsible for the accuracy of any description.

Settlement Land in Marlborough Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.
District Lands and Survey Office,
Blenheim, 22nd May, 1929.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned land is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, up to 4 o’clock p.m., on Tuesday, 4th June, 1929.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Blenheim, at 10.30 o’clock a.m., on Thursday, 13th June, 1929, but if any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.
The ballot will be held immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants.
Preference at the ballot will be given to landless applicants who have one or more children dependent on them, to landless applicants who within two years immediately preceding date of ballot have applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully, to applicants who have served beyond New Zealand as members of the Expeditionary Force; to persons engaged on military service beyond New Zealand in connection with the late war, if such persons immediately prior to the war were bona fide residents of New Zealand, and to applicants who, while domiciled in New Zealand, have served beyond New Zealand as members of any of His Majesty’s Forces in connection with any war other than the war with Germany.
SCHEDULE.
MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT.—SETTLEMENT LAND.—TOWN LAND.
Awatere County.—Starborough Settlement.
SECTION 1, Block VIII: Area, 1 rood. Capital value, £30. Half-yearly rent, 15s.
Section 2, Block VIII: Area, 1 rood. Capital value, £30. Half-yearly rent, 15s.
Section 4, Block VIII: Area, 3 roods 25 perches. Capital value, £75. Half-yearly rent, £1 17s. 6d.
Sections 1 and 2 are level, Section 4 broken, dropping to Starborough Stream by a high bank. Soil is of good quality on gravel formation.
ABSTRACT OF CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

Term of lease: Thirty-three years, with a perpetual right of renewal for further successive terms of thirty-three years, and a right to acquire the freehold.

Rent: Five per cent. per annum on the capital value, payable in advance on 1st January and 1st July in each year.

Applicants to be twenty-one years of age and upwards.

Applicants to furnish with applications statutory declarations, and, on being declared successful, deposit £1 1s. (lease fee) and a half-year’s rent. Rent for the broken period between date of lease and 1st January or 1st July following is also payable.

Applications made on the same day are deemed to be simultaneous.

No person may hold more than one allotment.

Successful applicants to execute lease within thirty days after being notified that it is ready for signature.

Lessee to reside continuously on the land, and pay all rates, taxes, and assessments.

Transfer not allowed until expiration of fifth year of lease, except under extraordinary circumstances, and then only with permission.

Lease is liable to forfeiture if conditions are violated.

Settlement Land in Canterbury Land District for Selection on Renewable Lease.

Christchurch, 22nd May, 1929.
NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned land is open for selection on renewable lease under the Land Act, 1924, and the Land for Settlements Act, 1925, and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch, up to 4 o’clock p.m., on Friday, 21st June, 1929.
Applicants must appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the Courthouse, Timaru, at 1 o’clock p.m., on Tuesday, 25th June, 1929, and must produce documentary evidence of their financial position or backing, farming ability and experience, and, in the case of discharged soldiers, their military discharges. If any applicant so desires he may be examined by the Land Board of any other district.
The ballot will be held at the Courthouse, Timaru, on Tuesday, 25th June, 1929, immediately upon conclusion of the examination of applicants.

Waimate County.—Waimate Survey District.—Bourndale Settlement.
Lot 1 of Section 1, D.P. 9199, Block I: Area, 106 acres 0 roods 24 perches. Capital value, £850. Half-yearly rent, £21 5s.
Weighted with £10 10s., value of improvements (subdivisional fencing), payable in cash. The balance of the improvements are included in the capital value.
Situated eight miles from Makikihi Railway-station and two miles from Hunter School. Cream lorry passes property. Area at present is bad in places with gorse, fescue, &c. The section should be very suitable for any one holding land in the vicinity. A remission of two years’ rent will be given subject to improvements being effected to at least double the value of rent so remitted. Improvements to be effected to satisfaction of Land Board within two years from selection.
