Child Welfare Amendment Act, 1927.
IN pursuance of the power vested in me by section 6, subsection (1), of the Child Welfare Amendment Act, 1927, I, Harry Atmore, Minister of Education, do hereby notify that the premises set forth in the Schedule below have been registered as from the date hereof as a Children’s Home for the purposes of the said Act.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Boot Dealers’, (2) Clothiers’, (3) Cycle Dealers’, (4) Drapers’, (5) Fancy-goods Dealers’, (6) Grocers’, (7) Ironmongers’, (8) Saddlers’, and (9) Stationers’ Shops within the Borough of Motueka.
WHEREAS requisitions in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) boot dealer, (2) clothier, (3) cycle dealer, (4) draper, (5) fancy-goods dealer, (6) grocer, (7) ironmonger, (8) saddler, and (9) stationer within the Borough of Motueka have been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exception—on the working-day first preceding Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.:
And whereas I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisitions represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough:
Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 27th day of May, 1929, all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough shall be closed accordingly.
The notice dated the 25th May, 1921, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 26th May, 1921, fixing the closing-hours of all shops in the Borough of Motueka shall be and is hereby cancelled in so far as it relates to the shops affected by this notice as from the date of the coming into operation of this notice.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, fixing the Closing-hours of Fruiterers’ Shops within the Borough of Te Aroha.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the fruiterers’ shops within the Borough of Te Aroha, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the said borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: During the period from the 1st day of January to the 29th day of February and from the 1st day of November to the 31st day of December (all days inclusive) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10 p.m., and on Saturdays at 11 p.m.; during the period from the 1st day of March to the 31st day of October (both days inclusive) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 9:30 p.m., and on Saturdays at 11 p.m.
And whereas I, William Andrew Veitch, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the said shops within the said borough:

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part III), and Amendments.
WHEREAS it has been reported to the Public Trustee that by memorandum of mortgage dated the 21st day of March, 1914, and Registered Number 31588, Taranaki Registry, one David Maxwell, of Toko, Farmer, mortgaged his estate and interest in that parcel of land, containing by admeasurement 1 acre, more or less, being part Section 41, Block 3, Ngaire Survey District, and the whole of the land in certificate of title, Vol. 78, folio 166, Taranaki Registry, to secure repayment on the 21st day of March, 1915, to Anton Jacob Hintz, formerly of Toko, Hotelkeeper, but latterly of Kamahi, Southland, Farmer, of the principal sum of £100, together with interest thereon as therein specified: And whereas it is not known where the said Anton Jacob Hintz is, or whether he is alive or dead: And whereas it is provided by Part III of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (relating to unclaimed property), as amended by section 41 of the Public Trust Office Amendment Act, 1921–22, that when it is not known where the owner of any real or personal property is, or whether he is alive or dead, and the value of such property does not exceed £1,000, the Public Trustee (with the consent of the Public Trust Office Board) may, by notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to exercise the powers conferred on him by section 87 of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, and thereafter exercise the same without application to the Court: And whereas the said consent of the Public Trust Office Board has been duly given: Now the Public Trustee hereby gives notice that he intends to take possession of the said memorandum of mortgage and of all moneys payable thereunder either by principal or for interest and, upon complete repayment of all such principal and interest, to execute a release of the said memorandum of mortgage, and generally to exercise in respect of the said memorandum of mortgage and of the moneys payable thereunder the powers conferred upon him in and by the provisions of Part III of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908, and the amendments thereof.

Te Makarini Scholarships tenable at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.
TWO scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition in the year 1929. One of these scholarships, to be called the Senior Makarini Scholarship, is open to all Maori boys under sixteen years of age at the end of the month next preceding the month of the examination. The other scholarship, to be called the Junior Makarini Scholarship, is open to Maori boys who have been in regular attendance at Native village schools and are under fourteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the month of the examination. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions set forth in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Regulations relating to Native Schools, except that for the Junior Scholarship the age limit is now fourteen years, and that for the senior examination the work required is that of Standard VI instead of Standard V. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 2nd and 3rd of December, 1929.
Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Senior Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted so as to reach the Department not later than the 30th of September, 1929.
Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Director of Education, Wellington.
