Open Season for Chamois and Thar Shooting, South Canterbury Acclimatization District (part Tasman Park).

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May, 1929, to the 31st day of May, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the South Canterbury Acclimatization District for the taking or killing of the following imported game—viz., chamois and thar—within that part of the said acclimatization district described in the First Schedule hereto, subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. LICENSES to take or kill chamois bucks and thar bucks may be issued by the Chief Postmaster, Timaru, on the recommendation of the Secretary of the South Canterbury Acclimatization Society, on payment of a license fee of £10, in the form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and regulations thereunder and this notification. The number of such licenses shall not exceed three: Provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person: Also providing that if the number of applications received for licenses exceeds the number of available licenses, then the persons to whom such licenses are to be issued shall be decided by ballot: Provided further that no person shall be eligible to obtain a license under this Warrant who is the holder of a license to take or kill chamois bucks and thar bucks in the Waitaki Acclimatization District issued under a Warrant of even date herewith and gazetted contemporaneously herewith.

  2. No licensee shall take or kill more than two chamois bucks or two thar bucks, nor shall the total number of animals taken under this Warrant by any one licensee exceed two in all.

  3. No doe or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him.

  4. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any chamois or thar or any portion thereof.

  5. The fees paid for licenses issued pursuant to this notification shall, after deducting the cost of and incidental to the issue of such licenses, and any other expenses in connection therewith, be paid to the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts and the South Canterbury Acclimatization Society in equal proportions.

  6. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable on conviction to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded by a line commencing at the summit of Mount Cook; thence to and along the summit of the Southern Alps to Brodrick’s Peak; thence to and along the watershed to the summit of the Liebig Range; thence along the Liebig Range to the north-eastern corner of Run 216; thence along the south-eastern boundary of that run and Gorilla Stream to the middle of the Tasman River; thence up the middle of that river to the Tasman Glacier; thence to and along the western edge of the Tasman Glacier to its intersection by a line running through Ball Hut to the summit of Mount Cook; thence along that line to the summit of Mount Cook, the point of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

License to take or kill Imported Game (Chamois and Thar).

, of , having this day paid the sum of £10, is hereby authorized to take or kill two chamois bucks or two thar bucks, and in any case not more than two animals in all, within that part of the South Canterbury Acclimatization District as described in the endorsement hereon, from the 1st day of May, 1929, to the 31st day of May, 1929 (both days inclusive), subject to the provisions of the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, and all regulations and notifications affecting chamois and thar made thereunder and in force within the South Canterbury Acclimatization District.

Authorizing the Laying-off of a Road of less Width than 66 ft.

WHEREAS, in the opinion of the Minister of Lands, it is inexpedient, by reason of the fact that the land shown upon the plan of Town of Awamoā Extension No. 5, affecting part of Sections 34 and 49, Block IV, Oamaru Survey District, in the Land District of Otago, and prepared by Frederick Joseph Williams, Registered Surveyor, is intended to be used wholly for residential purposes, that the road shown therein should be of the width of 66 ft.:

Now, therefore, I, George William Forbes, Minister of Lands, do hereby, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by section 17, subsection (1), of the Land Act, 1924, and of every other power me thereunto enabling, authorize the laying-off of such road of a width of 50 ft.: Provided always that it shall not be lawful for any person to erect or cause to be erected any building at a less distance than 33 ft. from the middle of such road.

Prohibition of Issue of Money-orders and Transmission of Postal Correspondence for French Art Studios, Sydney.

THE Postmaster-General of the Dominion of New Zealand having reasonable ground for supposing that the firm whose name and address are shown in the Schedule hereunder is engaged in an obscene or immoral business, it is hereby ordered, under section 32 of the Post and Telegraph Act, 1928, that no money-order in favour of the said firm shall be issued and that no postal packet addressed to the said firm (either by its own or any fictitious or assumed name), or addressed to the address in the Schedule hereunder without a name, shall be either registered or forwarded by the Post Office of New Zealand.
