Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fee, &c., Waiapu Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in that portion of the Waiapu Acclimatization District as described in the Schedule hereto, comprising the counties of Waiapu and Matakaoa, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3, for the taking or killing of the following imported game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian and Australian quail; and the period from the 1st day of May to the 30th day of June, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in such portion of the said district, except in the areas referred to in Condition No. 3, for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., grey duck; and the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of May, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in that portion of the said district, comprising the County of Uawa, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian and Australian quail, and grey duck—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and the Postmasters at Te Araroa, Ruatorea, Kahukura, Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay, Waipiro Bay, Cape Runaway, and Hicks Bay are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty head in all; provided that not more than ten head of grey duck shall be taken or killed by any one person in any one day.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game or native game on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public Domain.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

6. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of less than 100 yards square.

7. No person shall use any power boat or launch in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

8. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Gisborne Land District bounded by a line commencing at the south-western corner of Whangaparaoa No. 1 Block, and proceeding thence northerly, easterly, and southerly along the sea-coast to Pakarae No. 1 Block; along the northern boundary of that block to the Pakarae River, and up that river to and along the north-western boundary of Section 2, Block XIII, Uawa Survey District; along the northern boundary of Waimata North No. 1, the north-eastern boundaries of S.G. Run 58, Waimata North 1A 2, and along the northern boundary of S.G. Run 58 aforesaid, to a public road; along that road running north through S.G. Run 43 to the south-eastern boundary of Lot 1 of S.G. Run 43A; along the south-eastern and north-eastern boundaries of said Lot 1; along the south-eastern, northern, and north-western boundaries of S.G. Run 42 to Waiapu Inland Road; along that road to Waingaromia 1c Block; along the north-eastern boundary of that block to the Waingaromia River; up that river to and along the north-eastern boundary of Waipaoa 3B, the north-eastern boundary of Waipaoa No. 2, the eastern boundaries of Sections 1, Block IX, 2, Block V, and 1, Block VI, Tutamoe Survey District; westerly along the southern boundary Huiarua No. 3 Block, and northerly along the western boundary of that block to its intersection with a right line between Arowhana and Kapua Trig. Stations; thence north-easterly along that line, a right line to Whanakaoa Trig. Station, and a right line to Pakira Trig. Station; along the south-western and western boundaries of Waikura No. 2, the western boundary of Whangaparaoa No. 3A Block, and the southern boundary of Whangaparaoa No. 1 Block, to the point of commencement.

The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed six cock pheasants, and ten head in all of grey duck and mallard duck; provided that the number of Californian and Australian quail which may be taken by any one person in any one day shall not be limited.

3. All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded by a line commencing at the confluence of the Ongaruhe and Wanganui Rivers at Taumarunui, and proceeding thence up the middle of the Wanganui River to its intersection with a right line lying between trig. station on Tongariro and a point on the west shore of Lake Taupo at the mouth of the Waihi Stream; thence south-westerly along that line to said trig. station on Tongariro; thence southerly along a right line to Trig. Station D on Ngauruhoe; thence south-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station H on Paretetaitonga; thence south-easterly along a right line to trig. station on Ruapehu; thence south-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station No. 28 on Manukaiapu; thence south-westerly along right lines through Trig.
