Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fees, &c., Lakes District Acclimatization District.

I N exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of July, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Lakes District Acclimatization District as described in the Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., Californian quail, grey duck, and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of May to the 7th day of May, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the localities known as Garston, Nicholas, Greenstone, and Glenorchy, being part of the said district, for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., paradise duck—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. LICENSES to take or kill such imported game and native game within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and licenses to take or kill such native game only will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the Postmasters at Queenstown, Arrowtown, Kingston, and Pembroke are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty-five head in all of grey duck and black swan, and six head of paradise duck.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game (or native game only) shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game (or native game only) on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

6. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of less than 100 yards square.

7. No person shall use any power-boat or launch in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

8. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Otago and Southland Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Awarua River in Big Bay, and proceeding thence along a right line to Mount Aspiring; along the summit of the Southern Alps and a spur range to Mount Kuri; along a spur to the Wilkin River; down that river; along the centre of Lake Wanaka; down the Clutha River and up the Cardrona River to the northern boundary of Block I, Lower Wanaka; easterly and southerly along the boundaries of that block to its south-eastern corner along a right line to Mount Pisa; down the Roaring Meg Stream and up the Kawarau River to the confluence of the Nevis River; along a right line to Mount Rosa and along the summits of the Remarkables and Hector Ranges to the northern boundary of Section 2, Block III, Nokomai Survey District, and along the north-western boundaries of Sections 3 and 4 to the Mataura River; thence up the Mataura River to its source on Eyre Peak; thence by a right line to Jane Peak; thence to Hummock Peak; thence along the watershed to Mount Lookup, and thence still following the watershed to Round Peaks; thence westerly by a right line to Mount Eglington; thence by a right line to Largs Peak; thence by a right line to Skelmorlie Peak; thence along the range to Mount Anau; thence along the range to a point in line with Castle Mount and Cloudy Pass in Bligh Sound; thence by a right line through Castle Mount to Cloudy Pass aforesaid; thence generally northerly by the sea-coast to the mouth of the Awarua River, the place of commencement.

I N exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921–22, I, Philip Aldborough de la Perelle, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 30th day of June, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Australian quail, Californian quail, grey duck, spoonbill duck (shoveller), and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of May to the 31st day of May, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district, except as above, for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., black teal; and the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day of March, 1930 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits—subject to the following conditions.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the North Auckland Land District bounded on the west and north by the Tasman Sea from Whangape Harbour to North Cape; on the east generally by the South Pacific Ocean to Takou River; and on the south by a line up the said Takou River to and along the north-western boundary of Old Land Claim 4; along the north-western boundary of section 5, subdivision of Kaipiro Kauri-gum Reserve; along the western boundary of said Section 5 and the north-western boundaries of Section 3 and of Section 1 to Te Whau Trig. Station; along the north-western and western boundaries of Section 16, said Kaipiro Kauri-gum Reserve, the northern boundaries of Sections 12 and 14, the western boundary of the last-named section, the northern and western boundaries of Section 10, the western boundary of Section 15A, to a public road; westerly and southerly along this road to the north-western corner of Section 16, Block XVI, Kerikeri Survey District; along the western boundary of said Section 16, the north-eastern and north-western boundaries of Section 28 (Old Land Claim), along the north-western boundaries of Sections 5, Block XV, Kaeo Survey District, and 1s and 3s, Puketi Settlement, the north-western boundaries of Sections 15, 8, and 9, to Pukatea Stream; down that stream, and the
