characteristics and suitability for certain purposes.
(c) Synchronous motors: Principle of construction; characteristics;
starting; conditions for which they are suitable; use of static condensers.
(d) Synchronous converters: Connections and features of construction;
voltage ratio, starting; special uses; voltage regulators; three-wire
machines.

B.

Practical Work.

The examination will cover the syllabus in practical work for the wiremen's
final examination, and in addition the following: Treatment of brush gear;
fitting and aligning bearings; fitting keys and pulleys; erecting and aligning
shafting and pulleys; setting out templates for foundations; erecting and
lining up machines; repairing heating-units; cutting out armature-coils;
testing for faults in machines; forming coils; connecting up windings
and testing them.

The South-eastern Side of Portion of Ramsay Street, and the
South-western Side of Portion of Glencairn Street, in the
City of Dunedin, exempted from the Provisions of Section 117
of the Public Works Act, 1908, subject to a Condition as to the
Building-line.

At the Government House at Wellington, this 30th day of
November, 1928.

His Excellency The Governor-General in Council.

I N pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the
Public Works Act, 1908, and of all other powers in any-
wise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor-
General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
Dominion, doth hereby approve of the following resolution
passed by the Dunedin City Council on the fourteenth day of
November, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-eight,
viz:—

“‘That the Dunedin City Council, being the local authority
having control of the streets in the City of Dunedin, by
resolution declares that the provisions of section one
hundred and seventeen of the Public Works Act, 1908,
shall not apply to the portions of streets described here-
under, viz:—

“(a) The south-eastern side of portion of Ramsay Street
where the same abuts on Allotment 19 of Sub-
division of Section 117, North-east Valley
District, and
“(b) The south-western side of portion of Glencairn
Street where the same abuts on Allotment 19
of Subdivision of Section 117, North-east
Valley District,
as the said portions of streets are shown on the plan
attached hereto and thereon coloured red”;
subject to the condition that no building or part of a building
shall at any time be erected on the land fronting the south-
eastern side of the portion of Ramsay Street or the south-
western side of the portion of Glencairn Street (described in
the Schedule hereto), within a distance of thirty-three feet
from the centre-line of the said portions of streets.

SCHEDULE.

The south-eastern side of all that portion of street situated
in the Otago Land District, City of Dunedin, known as Ramsay
Street, fronting Allotment 19 of Subdivision of Section 117,
North-east Valley District.

Also the south-western side of all that portion of street
situated in the said land district and city, known as
Glencairn Street, fronting Allotment 19 of Subdivision of
Section 117, North-east Valley District.

As the same are more particularly delineated on the plan
marked P.W.D. 73915, deposited in the office of the Minister
of Public Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

western side of the portion of Eden Street (described in the
Schedule hereto), within a distance of thirty-three feet from
the centre-line of the said portion of street.


SCHEDULE.

The western side of all that portion of street, situated in
the Wellington Land District, City of Wellington, known
as Eden Street, fronting Lot 554, D.P. 816, being part Sec-
tion 5, Town Registration District, Block X, Port Nicholson
Survey District. As the said portion of street is more parti-
cularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 73897, de-
posited in the office of the Minister of Public Works at
Wellington, and thereon coloured red.
