Duty on Goods produced or manufactured in Australia.
WHEREAS by subsection (1) of section 7 of the Customs Amendment Act, 1927, it is provided that nothing in the preceding provisions of that Act shall affect the Agreement for Customs reciprocity made between the Governments of New Zealand and the Commonwealth of Australia and ratified by the Tariff Agreement (New Zealand and Australia) Ratification Act, 1922, or shall affect any Order in Council made for the purposes of or in relation to that Agreement under the authority of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921:
AND WHEREAS by subsection (2) of the same section it is provided that, subject to the terms of the said Agreement, the Minister may, by notice published in the Gazette, at any time apply the British Preferential Tariff to any goods specified or referred to in such notice, and being the produce or manufacture of the Commonwealth of Australia:
AND WHEREAS by the said Agreement (as modified by a certain further agreement, effect to which was given pursuant to section 10 of the Customs Amendment Act, 1921, by Order in Council of date the 19th day of May, 1926, published in the Gazette on the 20th day of the same month, at page 1329) it is provided, inter alia, without affecting certain rights of the parties thereto thereby declared, that the Dominion shall not impose any Customs duty or increase the rate of any Customs duty on any article the produce or manufacture of the Commonwealth entering the Dominion from the Commonwealth, except by mutual agreement, until after six calendar months’ notice to the other party to the first-mentioned Agreement:
AND WHEREAS such notice as aforesaid has been duly given by the Dominion to the Commonwealth of Australia as to such of the articles set out in the second column of the Schedule hereto as are affected by clause 2 of the said Agreement that on and after the 1st day of July, 1928, there will be imposed thereon the respective Customs duties or allowed in respect thereof the respective exemptions from Customs duties set out or indicated in the third column of the Schedule hereto (being the British Preferential Tariff within the meaning of the Customs Amendment Act, 1927):
