Date of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to fill Extraordinary Vacancy on the Gisborne Fire Board.

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, I, Francis Joseph Rolleston, being the Minister charged with the administration of the said Act, do hereby appoint Monday, 13th February, 1928, to be the date for holding the election of one member of the Gisborne Fire Board by the fire-insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by the seat of Mr. Alan George Seddon having been declared vacant.

Kaitaia Drainage District.—Notice of Intention to make and levy Rates.

Wellington, 26th January, 1928.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, pursuant to the Swamp Drainage Act, 1915, and its amendments, to make and levy a special rate to meet interest and sinking fund on capital for the period from the 1st April, 1927, to the 31st March, 1928, on the unimproved value of the land comprising the Kaitaia Town District within the district constituted under the said Act.

The amount of such rate shall be payable in one sum on the 16th February, 1928.

The valuation roll of the district is open for inspection at the office of the Collector of Rates, Chief Drainage Engineer's Office, 5 Law Court Buildings, High Street, Auckland, at all times at which that office is open for the transaction of public business.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Clothiers’ and (2) Drapers’ Shops within the Borough of Morrinsville.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier and (2) draper within the Borough of Morrinsville has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the borough be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., on Fridays at 9 p.m., and on Saturdays at 1 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the evening of the working-day that first precedes Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) when Anniversary Day, Anzac Day, or the birthday of the reigning Sovereign falls on the day on which any shop may remain open until 9 p.m. in accordance with this requisition, then, in such case, the closing-hour for such shop on the day preceding such day shall be 9 p.m.: Provided that the right to remain open till the time mentioned in exceptions (1) and (2) shall in each case be subject to the shop being closed all day on the holiday on the day following:

And whereas I, George James Anderson, Minister of Labour, am satisfied that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier and (2) draper within the Borough of Morrinsville:

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, I do hereby direct that on and after the 1st day of February, 1928, all the shops in each of the trades of (1) clothier and (2) draper within the Borough of Morrinsville shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions—(1) On the evening of the working-day that first precedes Good Friday the closing-hour shall be 9 p.m.; (2) when Anniversary Day, Anzac Day, or the birthday of the reigning Sovereign falls on the day on which any shop may remain open until 9 p.m. in accordance with this notice, then, and in such case, the closing-hour for such shop on the day preceding such day shall be 9 p.m.: Provided that the right to remain open till the time mentioned in exceptions (1) and (2) shall in each case be subject to the shop being closed all day on the holiday on the day following.

Applying the Provisions of Section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, to the Aorangi River Bridge on the Greatford-Woodville, via Feilding and Ashhurst, Main Highway.

WHEREAS it is provided by section 7 of the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, that the Minister of Public Works may, on the recommendation of the Main Highways Board (hereinafter referred to as “the Board”), by notice in the Gazette, declare that the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, in so far as it provides for the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of any bridge forming part of a main highway in so far as such cost is not provided for out of the Main Highways Account:

And whereas on the 8th December, 1927, the Board resolved as follows: “That, in accordance with the Main Highways Amendment Act, 1925, the Hon. Minister of Public Works be recommended to apply the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act to the Aorangi Bridge on the Greatford-Woodville, via Feilding and Ashhurst, Main Highway”:

Now, therefore, I, Robert Alexander Wright, Minister of Education, acting for Kenneth Stuart Williams, Minister of Public Works, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by the said section 7, and of every other power in any-wise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby declare that the provisions of section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, in so far as they provide for the apportionment of the cost of construction, shall apply with respect to the apportionment of the cost of construction of the Aorangi Bridge on the Greatford-Woodville, via Feilding and Ashhurst, Main Highway.
