Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

Wellington, 21st May, 1928.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Waikato County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926.

WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1926, I hereby give notice that a poll of ratepayers of the Cambridge Road District of the County of Waikato, taken on the 4th day of May, 1928, on the proposal of the Waikato County Council to borrow the sum of four thousand four hundred pounds (£4,400) for the purpose of tar-sealing portion of the Hamilton–Rotorua Main Highway within the boundaries of the Cambridge Road Board District, the result was as follows: The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 179; the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 32.

I therefore declare the proposal was carried.

Notice under the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendment, prohibiting the Sale within the Borough of Sumner of certain Goods comprised in the Trades of (1) Draper and (2) Mercer.


WHEREAS a petition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) draper and (2) mercer within the Borough of Sumner, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour, desiring that the sale of certain goods comprised in the trades of draper and mercer—namely, hats, coats, dresses, furs, underskirts, all classes of ladies’ and children’s underwear, corsets, sheetings, damasks, forfar, linen, towels, shirtings, flannels, flannelettes, linen tray cloths, all classes of dress materials, crepe de chine, voiles, serves, repps, silks, satins, linings, sateens, flannel, cottons, tapes, sewing-silks, laces, hooks and eyes, domes, elastic, needles, pins, handkerchiefs, and all fancy goods, gloves, hosiery, caps, hats, ties, sox, underwear, suits, collars—be prohibited during such time as the said shops are required to be closed in pursuance of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its amendment :

And whereas the Minister of Labour is satisfied that the sale of the said goods is comprised in the said trades within the said borough, and that the signatures to such petition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the said trades within the said borough :

Now, therefore, in pursuance of section 33 of the said Act, I, for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby direct that on and after the 4th day of June, 1928, the sale of the said goods within the Borough of Sumner shall be and is hereby prohibited as follows: On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the hour of 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays after the hour of 9 p.m.

Notice of Date of the Public Service Entrance Examination.


Office of the Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 11th May, 1928.

NOTICE is hereby given of the intention to hold the Public Service Entrance Examination on or about the 20th November, 1928; and following days.

For the examination a fee of £1 is payable.

Entries for the examination must be addressed “The Director of Education, Wellington,” and be sent so as to reach his office on or before the 8th September, 1928. Both male and female candidates will be admitted to the examination.

Late applications for the examination will be received up to the 22nd September if accompanied by a receipt for a late fee of 10s. (in addition to the £1 ordinarily payable), paid at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department.

All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained from the office of the Education Department or of any Education Board.


No one, except in such cases as the Commissioner may declare to be special cases, shall be appointed to a cadetship in the Clerical Division unless his age at the time of appointment is not less than fifteen nor more than eighteen years.

Notice of the Date of Examinations under the Control of the Director of Education.


Education Department,
Wellington, 19th May, 1928.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned examinations will be held on or about the dates specified in each case :—

Senior National Scholarship Examination : 20th November, 1928, and following days.

Intermediate Examinations for Senior Free Places in Secondary Schools and District High Schools : 20th November, 1928, and following days.

Junior National Scholarship (candidates for Junior Free Places who will be over fifteen on the 1st December next must now take this examination) : 28th and 29th November, 1928.

Entries must be made as follows :—

For Junior National Scholarships and Junior Free Places : Through the head teacher of the school, to the Secretary of the Education Board, up till the 8th September.

For Senior National Scholarships : Through the head teacher to the Director of Education, Wellington, up till 8th September.

For the Intermediate (Senior Free Place) Examination : Through the head teacher, to the Director of Education, Wellington, up to the 8th September.

Those candidates who are recommended for a Senior Free Place under the provision of clause 7 (c) of the regulations relating to free places, as amended by Order in Council of the 1st November, 1926, shall, if required to sit for examination, be admitted without fee. Otherwise, each candidate’s application must be accompanied by a receipt for the payment of 10s. at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department of New Zealand.

Late applications for the three above-named examinations, accompanied by receipts for the payment of a late fee of 10s. at some money-order office of the Post and Telegraph Department, will be received up to the 22nd September.

All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained from the office of any Education Board.

I, JOHN CARADUS, Assistant Registrar of Incorporated Societies, do hereby declare that, as it has been made to appear to me that the Ngatimoti Ratepayers’ Association (Incorporated) is not carrying on its operations, the aforesaid association is hereby dissolved in pursuance of section 28 of the Incorporated Societies Act, 1908.
