by such Secretary in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed twenty-five head in all of mallard duck, Canadian goose, Californian quail, grey duck, spoonbill duck (or widgeon), black swan, and pukeko; provided that not more than twelve head per day of pukeko or twenty head per day of Californian quail shall be taken by any one person; provided further that Californian quail shall not be taken or killed in the following districts, viz.: Waikaia, Heriot, Hindon, Maungatua, Waihola, Waipori, Salisbury, Puke-rangi, and Puerua, nor may more than two head of Canadian goose be taken by any one person during the open season.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits (or native game only, including godwits), shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game (or native game only) on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

5. A license issued pursuant to this notification to take or kill imported and native game or native game only shall entitle the holder thereof to take or kill native game in the Southland Acclimatization District, during the period and subject, mutatis mutandis, to the conditions prescribed in the notification fixing an open season for native game in that district.

6. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

7. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of less than 100 yards square.

8. No person shall use any power boat or launch in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

9. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on conviction, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that area in the Otago and Southland Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at Broderick’s Pass and proceeding along the summit of the range passing through Mount Huxley, Lindis Pass, to Mount St. Bathans; along a right line due east to and along the summit of the Hawkdun Range, through Mount Domet and along the summit of the Kakanui Range to the source of the Waianakarua River; down that river to the eastern boundary of Section 27, Block III, Waihemo Survey District; south-westerly along that boundary to a public road; south-easterly along that road to the eastern boundary of Section 4, Block XIV, Moeraki Survey District; along that boundary, along the northern and eastern boundaries of Block XII, Moeraki Survey District, to the northern boundary of Section 31; easterly along that boundary to the north-eastern corner of said Section 31; thence along a public road to the southern boundary of Section 43, Block IX, Moeraki Survey District; along the southern boundaries of Sections 43, 44, and 45, all of Block IX, and along the western boundary of Section 1 of 20, Block III, Moeraki, to the sea; thence by the sea to the mouth of the Mataura River; thence up the Mataura River to the north-western boundary of Section 4, Block III, Nokomai Survey District; thence north-easterly along that boundary and the north-western boundary of Section 3, Block III aforesaid, to a public road; across that road, and northerly along same to the northern boundary of Section 2, Block III, Nokomai Survey District; thence north-easterly along the summit of the Hector Mountains passing through Lorn Peak, James Peak, and Ben Nevis to Ben Cruachan; thence easterly through Mount Edward to Mount Rosa; thence by a right line to the confluence of the Nevis and Kawarau Rivers; thence down the Kawarau River to its junction with the Roaring Meg Stream; thence up the Roaring Meg Stream to its source on Mount Pisa; thence by a right line northerly to the south-eastern corner of Block I, Lower Wanaka Survey District; thence northerly along the eastern boundary of the said Block I to the north-eastern corner of the said Block I; thence due west along the northern boundary of Block I

foresaid to the Cardrona River; thence down the Cardrona and up the Clutha River to Lake Wanaka; thence up the centre of Lake Wanaka to the mouth of the Wilkin River; thence up the centre of the Wilkin River to the foot of a spur leading to Mount Kuri; thence by a right line to Mount Kuri, from Mount Kuri to the summit of the Southern Alps, and by the Southern Alps to Broderick’s Pass, the place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the open season wherein imported game and native game (or native game only) shall not be taken or killed:—

The Lagoon known as Tomahawk Lagoon (Otago Peninsula). Section 22, Block IV, Sutton District, being the property of Mr. E. J. Docherty.

The property owned by Mr. R. Acton Adams, known as “Wilde,” Tuapeka County, containing 8,590 acres.

Section 121c, Block 9, Dunback and Hummockside Districts, the property of Mr. John Philip, Palmerston.

Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fees, &c., Rotorua Acclimatization District.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Maui Pomare, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of May to the 30th day of June, 1928 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Rotorua Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, and in the areas referred to in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game or native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian, Virginian, and Australian quail, grey duck, spoonbill duck, eastern golden plover, turnstone, and black swan; and the period from the 1st day of February to the 30th day of April, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits and knots—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

1. Licenses to take or kill such imported game and native game, including godwits and knots, within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each, and licenses to take or kill the following native game only—viz., godwits and knots—will be issued to any person on payment of ten shillings (10s.) each; and the General Manager of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department, Wellington, or any person authorized by the said General Manager in that behalf, is hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

2. The number of such imported and native game that may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day shall not exceed ten cock pheasants, and twenty head in all of grey duck, eastern golden plover, turnstone, and black swan; Provided that not more than ten head of grey duck may be taken or killed by any one person in any one day.

3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits and knots, or the following native game only—viz., godwits and knots—shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game or native game, including godwits and knots, or godwits and knots only, on lands actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto.

4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, or pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purpose aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as No. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight: Provided that no person engaged in shooting from any shelter, mai-mai, mud-hole, boat, louver, or other contrivance shall have or use more than one gun as above described.

5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.
