and the northern boundary of Wellington Land District to the middle of the Manawatu River; thence by the middle of the Manawatu River to a point in line with the summit of the Ruahine Range; thence to and by the summit of that range to a right line running between Aorangi Trig. Station and the confluence of the northern branch of the Waipawa River with the Makaroro River; thence by that line to Aorangi Trig. Station; thence by a right line running in the direction of trig. numbered 32 to the middle of the Rangitikei River, and by the middle of that river to the place of commencement.

Open Season for Imported Game and Native Game, License Fees, &c., Hobson Acclimatization District.


IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection and Game Act, 1921-22, I, Maui Pomare, Acting Minister of Internal Affairs “f the Dominion “f New Zealand, do hereby declare the period from the 1st day of June to the 31st day of July, 1928 (both days inclusive), to be an open season in the Hobson Acclimatization District, as described in the First Schedule hereto, except in the areas referred t” in condition No. 3 and in the Second Schedule; hereto, for the taking or killing of the following imported game and native game—viz., cock pheasants, Californian quail, grey duck, black teal, black swan, and pukeko; and the period from the 1st day of January to the 31st day “f March, 1929 (both days inclusive), to be an “pen seas”, 1 in the said district for the taking or killing of the following native game—viz., godwits—subject to the following conditions.

CONDITIONS.

  1. Licenses to take or kill such imported game and native game, including godwits, within the said district will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings (20s.) each; and licenses to take and kill the following native game only—viz., godwits—will be issued to any person on payment of the sum of ten shillings 3 (10s.) each; and the Postmasters at Maungaturoto, Paparoa, Pahi, Matakohc, Dargaville, Donnelly’s Grassing-, Te Kopuru, Aro-tapu, Tangiteroria, Tangowahine, Kaihu, Kirikoponui, Mititai, Raupo, Ruawai, Batley, Hoanga, Mangawhare, Mareretu, Onetoa, Naumai, Otamatea, Pukihnia, Rehia, Tutamoe, Wai-rere, Whakapirau, and Tokatoka are hereby authorized to sign and issue the said licenses.

  2. The number of such imported game and native game that may be taken or killed by my one person in my on a day shall not exceed twelve cock pheasants, and twenty-five head in all of grey duck, black teal, black swan, and pukeko.

  3. Nothing in any license to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits, shall authorize the holder thereof to take or kill imported game and native game, including godwits, or native game only (viz., godwits) on land s actually and exclusively used by any registered acclimatization society for acclimatization purposes, or on any sanctuary or public domain, or any land mentioned in the Second Schedule beret”.

  4. No person shall kill or destroy any such imported game or native game, or shoot at or attempt to shoot at any such imported game or native game, with any automatic or auto-loading gun, unless it is converted into a gun capable of carrying two cartridges only, or with any rifle or pea-rifle, swivel-gun, punt-gun, pump-gun, or shall use any gun other than a shoulder-gun; and no gun shall be used for the purposes aforesaid the bore of which is larger than the size known as NO. 12 at the muzzle, nor shall any gun be used which exceeds 10 lb. in weight.

  5. Shooting may begin not earlier than one hour before sunrise and must cease not later than one hour after sunset.

  6. No live birds of any species shall be used as decoys, nor shall more than twenty-five artificial decoys be used at any one time (whether by one or several persons) on any particular water within an area of 100 yards square.

  7. No person shall use any power-boat or launch on any lake, pond, lagoon, mere, estuary, or other dead water in connection with the taking or killing of imported or native game.

  8. Any person committing a breach of any of these conditions is liable, on ““victim, to a fine of £20.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

All that ares in the North Auckland Land District commencing on the sea-coast at the north-western corner of Block V, Waipoua Survey District,, and bounded by the southern boundaries of Blocks I, II, III, and IV, Waipoua Survey District, to a public road; across that road; and by the western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries of Section 10, Block I, Tutamoe Survey District, to the north-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section; across a public road, and by the north-eastern boundaries “f Sections 6, 6, and 7, Block V, Tutamoe Survey District, to the south-western corner of Section 5, Block I, Tutamoe Survey District; thence by the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 6, 4, 3, and 14 of the last-mentioned block, and part of the southern boundary of Section 5, Block II, Tutamoe Survey District, to the intersection of a line running between the north-western corner of Section 3, Block XIII, Punakitere Survey District, and Tutamoe Trig. Station; thence by the last-mentioned line to Tutamoe Trig. Station; thence by a right line running in the direction of Trig. Station No. 118 on Tarai-o-Rahiri to the western boundary of Section IYo. 26, Block IX, Mangakahia Survey District; thence south-easterly along the western boundaries generally of Sections 26, 23, and 22, Block IX aforesaid, to the road forming the eastern boundary of Section No. 22 aforesaid; across that road and along its eastern side t” the southernmost corner of Section 11 of Block IX aforesaid; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundary of said Section 11 to its easternmost corner; thence south-easterly along that part of the western boundary of Section 2 and the western and southern boundaries generally of Sections 8A and 9 to the westernmost corner of the reserve forming the northern boundary of Section 2, Block XIII, Mangakahia Survey District; thence south-easterly along the southern boundary of the said reserve to a public road, across that road, and southerly along the eastern side of the aforesaid road and the south-western boundaries of Sections 11, 10, 9, and 8, Block XIV, Mangakahia Survey District, to the Wairoa River; thence down the Wairoa River to its junction with the Tangihua River; thence up the Tangihua River to its junction with the Waiotama River; and thence up the Waiotama River to its intersection by the road forming the eastern and southern boundaries of Section 1, Block I, Tangihua Survey District; thence southerly and westerly along that road to a point in line with the western boundary of Section 7a, Block I, Tangihua Survey District; thence southerly along the western boundaries of Sections 7A and 7 to the westernmost corner of the last-mentioned section; thence southerly along the western boundaries of Sections 16, 15A, and 14 to Horokaka Trig. Station; thence by a right line to the north-eastern corner of Allotment No. 1a, Walton’s Grant; thence down the stream forming the eastern boundary of Allotment No. 1A aforesaid to th” Tauraroa River; thence down the said Tauraroa River to its junction with the Mangonui River; thence up the said Mangonui River to its junction with the north-western boundary of Section 1, Block II, Matakohc Survey District; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundaries of the said Section 1, Block II aforesaid, the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 44, 51, 63, Block III, Matakohc Survey District, the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 59,61, 65,66, and part of 67, Block XV, Tangihua Survey District, the south-eastern boundaries of part of Section 67 and Sections 68, 159, 157, 166. 155, and 154, Block XVI, Tangihua Survey District, to the easternmost corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by the eastern boundaries “f the parishes of Mareretu and Wairau to the main road t” Waipu; then” by the western side of that road through Maungaturoto to the Great North Road; along the western side “f that road to the Hakaru River; thence down the middle of that river, the middle of the Topuni River, the middle of Oruawharo Riser, and the middle of the channel of the Kaipara Harbour to its entrance; thence northerly along the sea-coast to the north-western corner of Block V, Waipoua Survey District, the point of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

Areas, in addition to those referred to in condition No. 3, excepted from the “pen season wherein imported game and native game shall not be taken or killed:—

All that area in the North Auckland Land District, situated in Kai Iwi and Kaihu Survey Districts, Hobson County, being the lakes known as Lake Waikem, Lake Taharoa, and Lake Kai Iwi, and the area surrounding the said lakes included within a line running parallel to and 40 chains distant from the margins of the said lakes.

Whenuanui Domain, containing approximately 138 acres.
