THE following Notice to Mariners, which has been received from the Hydrographer of the Admiralty, London, is published for general information.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—SAMOA ISLANDS, TUTUILA ISLAND.
Pango Pango Harbour : Alteration in Light.
Position : On Breaker point. Lat. 14° 19' S.; long. 170° 40' W. (approx.).
Abridged description : Fl. ev. 5 sec. 190 ft., 12 M. (U).
Details: The fixed white light has been replaced by a light having the undermentioned characteristics:
Character : Flashing white every five seconds, thus: Flash 0·5 sec., eclipse 4·5 sec.
Elevation: 190 ft. (57m⁹).
Visibility: 12 miles.
Power : 130 candles.
Structure : White wooden pyramid.
Remarks : The light is unwatched. On small scale chart No. 1829, the leading lights into Pango Pango Harbour are no longer to be shown.

Notice to Mariners No. 79 of 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—NORTH ISLAND.—WEST COAST.—WANGANUI.
(1) Putiki : Rear beacon light altered.
(2) Mitchell's Reach : Light established.
Position : Lat. 39° 57' S.; long. 175° 00' E. (approx.).
(1) Date of alteration : Immediately; without further notice.
Details : The fixed white light shown from the white rear leading beacon, situated below Putiki, will be altered to flashing white 4 seconds, thus: ½ second flash ; 3½ seconds eclipse.
NOTE.—The light will provide an additional distinctive night mark to ships in the roadstead.
(2) Date of establishment : Immediately ; without further notice.
Details : A fixed green light erected on a triangular pile structure has been established at the northern side at the seaward end of Mitchell’s Reach. This light is situated 046° 360 ft. from and opposite to the existing red light near the eastern end of the south internal training wall.

Notice to Mariners No. 80 of 1927.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.—FIJI ISLANDS.—LAUTHALA HARBOUR.
(1) Suva Point: Submarine cable beacons established.
(2) Nukulau Reef : Beacons established.
Position : Cable Hut at Suva Point in lat. 18° 10' S., long. 178° 27' E. (approx.).
(1) Suva Point beacons:
Details : Three lighted concrete beacons, each having a square black and white chequered surmount, have been established at Suva Point for the purpose of indicating the positions of the two Suva - New Zealand submarine telegraph cables.
The rear beacon, situated on Suva Point, exhibits an occulting white light, 6 seconds ; eclipse, 3 seconds. The northern and southern front beacons each exhibit a flashing white light, 1½ seconds ; flash, ·15 seconds. The northern beacon is situated 093° 922 yards, and the southern beacon 108° 812 yards from the rear beacon.
The southern beacon in transit with the rear beacon defines the position of one of the submarine cables to where it approaches and passes seaward through the centre of N'Daveta Nukumbutho.
The northern beacon in transit with the rear beacon defines the position of the other submarine cable to where it reaches Port Nukulau and passes seaward through the centre of the channel westward of Nukulau and Mokaluva Islands.
(2) Nukulau Reef beacons :
Details : Two 14” square concrete posts, each having a square black and white chequered surmount have been established at the south - western edge of Nukulau Reef.
The northernmost post is situated 232°.5 777 yards from the eastern extremity of Nukulau Island; and the southernmost post 148° 402 yards from the northernmost post.
Anchorage is prohibited near the cable routes.

Notice to Mariners No. 81 of 1927.

NEW ZEALAND.—STEWART ISLAND. EASTERN COAST.— AKERS POINT.
(1) Light established.
(2) Beacon established.
(3) Buoy permanently withdrawn.
Previous Notice : No. 72 of 1927, hereby cancelled.
(1) Date of Establishment : On 28th November, 1927; without further notice.
Position : Near the eastern extremity of Akers Point ; lat. 46° 53'.9 S.; long. 168° 11'.2 E. (chart 2541).
Abridged description : (U) Fl. ev. 15 sec. 64 ft. 8 M.
Character : Flashing white with red sector every fifteen seconds, thus : flash ½ sec., eclipse 14½ sec.
Visibility : 8 miles (12·9 Km).
Elevation : 64 ft. (19m⁵).
Sectors : Shows white from 118° to 250° ; red thence to 255° ; white thence to 000° ; obscured elsewhere.
Structure : White tower, 15 ft.
Remarks : The red sector of 5° shows over the position of Barclay Rock.
NOTE.—The light is unwatched. This light was formerly exhibited at Anglem Point.
(2) Date of Establishment : On 28th November, 1927 ; without further notice.
Position : Akers Point.
Details : A white beacon, 12 ft., has been established at a position 16 ft. (4m⁹) above M.H.W.S., immediately below Akers Point light-tower. This beacon and Akers Point light-tower in transit 253° lead over Barclay Rock.
(3) Date of permanent withdrawal : On 28th November, 1927 ; without further notice.
Position : Off Akers Point, eastward of Barclay Rock.
Details : The red pillar buoy moored immediately eastward of Barclay Rock has been permanently withdrawn.
